You're on a ship, on your way to Chult. The Deschaineux is a rather nice ship, with sleek lines like a shark, and a mermaid figurehead. Its lanterns glow a vivid shade of green, but this stopped unnerving you by the end of the first tenday. It has been four tendays since you left port at Waterdeep, and three days ago, you received news that a dreadful curse has started to afflict those raised from the dead, which has been going on for what is now a tenday. Suddenly your holiday to Chult has turned into an important mission - supposedly, the answer lies in the mysterious jungles of Chult.
The day is pleasant, with barely a cloud in the sky. Along with you five adventurers, the ship is crewed by a dragonborn (the captain), and four kobolds (the crew). What do you do?

Mirrored Dream of Lightning has settled himself half leaned over the railing. He does not look happy to be on a boat for the past several days. In fact he looks downright queasy and about ready to make another attempt to lose what little food he has in his stomach. He whines in the back of his throat and tries to cool his fur on the railing. This does not work. Instead he ends up slipping down to lean against the side of the deck.
"Why...did it have...to be boats?" Mirrored Dream of Lightning groans. He has gotten barely any good sleep, and he feels ridiculously ill. For a second he just breathes, and then. "Hrng!" Mirrored Dream of Lightning pulls himself up and promptly looses the rest of his stomach contents. Just. *******. Perfect.
Mirrored Dream of Lightening blinked when the nausea left him. He rubbed at his muzzle and glanced over to the Paladin who helped and gave a wry sort of grin. He straightened up; a little dizzy, a little dehydrated, but overall he felt better than he had these past few days. His hand reached out to grasp the railing.
"Thank you, friend," he said with visible relief. "Why didn't you do that earlier?" They'd been on this boat for days. He'd been sick for days.
Sarlypsis has passed the journey simply reading and staring at the horizont, arguing every so often with the captain about the speed of the boat and how much time was left to arrive to Chult. She hadn't taken the journey just to enjoy some vacation, but to find out about its people and their knowledge. After more than a month, she's grown tired of it, and passes time on deck, chatting with the crew and the other adventurers.
"Asutali, Mirror."She says, approaching the yuan-ti and the tabaxi. "I've been wanting to ask this for a while, but why did you two embark on a trip to a far-away-island? Specially you."She looks at Mirrored Dream of Lightning. "Seeing your previous state, I'd say you've never travelled by sea."
Mirrored Dream of Lightning huffed. His tail twitched out of annoyance.
"Dream, or Light, if you must," he pointed out. "I've traveled by boat before." He hated it. Always made him sick as a dog. Rather frustrating to handle on, but he's never been on a journey quite as long. "There are ruins of interest in Chult. Stories. Tales. Histories. I wish to hear them." He eyed Sarlypsis. "You? And you?" he nodded to the Paladin.
Mouse has been on a few boats before, but only as a stowaway. He knows and likes his companions but still likes to keep out of harms way when ever possible. He has spend most of the trip sitting and watching in the crows nest making a few friends with the sailors who spend there time up there with him. He has only come down for food and sometimes even falls asleep up here as it is where he fells the most comfortable.
Mouse wakes up from a nap he has been taking and decides to descend a bit and explore the masts and sails of the ship leaping effortlessly between them. When he overhears the conversation between his companions, he stops over them on the nearest sail and quietly listens.
Beetle was taking a nice stroll along the deck of the ship when she spotted the group discussing their journey. "Hey, everyone! What're we talkin' about?" She seemed almost too cheery- as she always did. The eladrin's temperament was almost always obnoxiously cheery.
Asutali nods at beetle and says - why we are on a boat to Chult. as for me, I am looking to see if Chult has more information on the cause of the Yuan-Ti's lack of emotion. as she says this, she fiddels with a ring of a serpent coiled around a shield.

Mirrored Dream of Lightning chuffed a sort of laugh. "It is not a lack of emotion, more a lack of emotional connection," he gently pointed out. "Yuan-ti manipulate to their ends and means--does that not show that they feel something? A sense toward their goals, drive...those require emotions. Though muted they might be for Yuan-ti."
If he thought about it the Yuan-ti were rather fascinating. What people colloquially considered a lack of emotion Mirrored Dream of Lightning saw differently. They were inherently cold blooded--their serpentine heritage rang that very true--but there was evidence of Yuan-ti feeling something...just not in the conventional sense a human, dwarf, of elf would.
"Hmm... I don't really get it, but if you're wondering why you have certain drives toward goals that you have in common with other members of your race, wouldn't you want to know why that is?" Beetle suggested. She was unsure on whether or not she was getting her point across- and besides, this was a fun group. They should all really have a lot of fun together!
Asutali nods and says "well yes, we do have emotions, but they are very weak, even less than the lizardfolk, so while I may be your ally, they only reason I wouldn't betray you to further my goals is because good humans don't do that. However, I do have opinions, though they are extremely rational - such as thinking Beetle needs protection because she is a Hatchling" She continues to toy with her ring - My allys seem to know as much about my kind as I do, maybe they are more helpful than I thought

"Hmm... I guess because... I wanted to?" Beetle looked up at the tiefling, smiling. "Something told me to come here. I'm not sure what for- Oh! I should mention that I have no memories of anything past a year ago, so maybe it has to do with something I experienced before then."
Despite the clear weather only moments before, the sky greys, and rain starts to fall, drenching everyone. Suddenly, lightning strikes, extremely close to The Deschaineux, its thunder deafening you. The boat begins to rock violently as lightning strikes the ocean again, creating waves. The captain shouts something, lost to the wind, as one of the crew attempts to tie themselves to another. Everyone must make Dexterity saving throws to avoid being thrown overboard.
