"Fanciful use of your spear there, Nevets... a lot of practice I take it?" Grimm says with a chuckle, "but you're right - we should proceed cautiously."
Continuing, Grimm turns to Rose, all humor gone from her voice, "The question is, 'who in the nine hells would collar a hell hound and make a pet of it?' Whatever, the answer, we best put our guards up... There's motion within the house - and they may not take lightly to us skewering their puppy.... Who wants to knock on the door?"
Edit: // OOC : sorry beasty, your response wasn't up when I started typing. Didn't mean to seemingly ignore your response."
Rose nodded at Grimm. "A good point, on both counts."
She tapped her chin a moment and said "I should probably be the one to 'bell the cat' as it were, worst comes to worst I can always pull my shield up to spare us any nasty kaboom spells." Rose then took a moment to make herself look presentable, or at least as presentable as one could be after combat, and boldly strode to the front door. Keeping her shield ready in case of attack she rapped on the front door with her chainmailed knuckles. "Hello, is anyone home?" She asked in a clear, and non-threatening she hoped, tone.
You are greeted by an old gnome in fine but rather old fashioned clothes.
"Why hello there! You look exhausted! I am Grundy, steward of Stalmarsh Manor. My master, Gideon Staltmarsh invites you to share a hot dinner. Come with me!"
He hobbles off into the house.

The foul beast fell. Luckily, the party had no casualties. Seems as a team, we could be formidable, if not, at least, adequate.
"Yes. I, too, hold suspicious over the masters of this manor. It is no easy thing to call a hellhound a pet."
Torold thought it an unwise notion to bell the owner's of the 'pet' they'd just slain. Seeing as his wasn't the only voice, however, the party knocked on the door.
When a gnome answered, Torold was perplexed, but nonetheless wary. He takes a closer look at the outsides of the manor, seeing as he wasn't the closest to the door to look at the gnome or inside.
Boomer isn't at all confused about the gnome, just visibly perking up at the mention of food. He pushes forward to the front of the group, following the gnome closely. "Mr. Grundy is nice to Boomer and friends. Boomer likes you Mr. Grundy. But why you live in swamp and not in city with Boomer and friends?"

Once inside, Grimm keeps a steady eye on Mr. Grundy looking for any flinch or tell, especially if/when he says his master's name - Gideon Staltmarsh. { Insight 20 }

He follows the group into the manor last, and slowly closes the door behind him. The entryway was lavish and decadent, in its time, perhaps. It seems this small 'servant' didn't do much of the house keeping. Torold dusts a piece of furniture with his fingertips, rubbing the debris between his forefingers. Their was a high about of status or self-importance laid into their surroundings, yet it was left to such disarray. One particular painting catches Grimm's interest. It is of a young and graceful woman in a wedding gown, wearing a golden necklace. Her expression is sorrowful.
All of the other paintings have gothic or macabre themes.

Following Grundy into the next room reveals the following:
"This room speaks of comfort and opulence. The interior walls are plastered with a light stucco, carved in a most elaborate and magnificent fashion. Atop the clean flagstones lies a richly decorated rug, closely and beautifully woven. The center of the room is dominated by a long dining table, made of dark polished wood and set with gleaming silverware."
On the table are foods such as cod liver pastries, beef marrow fritters, salt water fish, eel puree, bacon broth, and roast beef. At the end of the table is a pale-skinned, bald headed man with a short gray beard. "Welcome to Staltmarsh Manor!" he says, "I am Gideon Staltmarsh. I ask you to come join me for dinner."
