"Come. Sit with us and share a drink. A traveler such as yourself must be tired and thirsty from the road. Barmaid! Another drink here for our new guest! Don't fret over this hospitality, I am a friend to all weary travellers! Oh? My name? Haha, I have travelled far and wide for so long I have forgotten it to be truthful. Haha. sigh People around these parts call me Storyteller. That is what you shall call me too friend! Tell me, do you like stories? Sometimes? Never?! Always?! Hahaha, indecisive I see!! No worries dear friend, the story I like to share is often compelling enough to entertain for the night. Rest assured I am not trying to be boastful! Haha! Ah, your drink has arrived! Here, drink, relax, and let me tell you the tale of the world we live in. It is said the realm of being we reside on is nestled between the kingdoms of the Aethyr, a state of being so foreign, different, and incomprehensible to our minds that it is simply confusing to think of. The world soon became inhabited by Mankind. Whether we descended from the Aethyr or from Khaldas, the Many-Faced god of Man, is unknown. For many untold years we grew, adapted, and thrived from the challenges we encountered. We grew communities and built kingdoms, fought wars and found friendships. Adventurers and heroes alike built our golden age up from the ground. Magic had found its way into the lands of men, changing the ways we fought, and improving the way we lived. We had also discovered another effect magic had on us: we had created kindred people. The aura of the mountains and the forest created the first dwarves and elves. It seemed that uncontrolled usage of magic had created a new world! While the world had become more lively and adventurous, we had irritated something much older then we had expected.
Remember when I said that this state of being resided within the kingdoms of the Aethyr? As (un)luck would have it, we resided in the kingdom of the Fae, and magic was their gift to us. Almost without warning we were assailed by gremlins, goblins, and monsters that ate the very tools and resources of civilization. Weapons and armors of knights, adventurers, and kings seemed to be ineffective at best, or devoured at worst. It seemed that the very idea of civilization was a pest to the fae. The non-human civilizations had received a far worse fate, as if they were an insult for merely existing. Once friendly or cordial to man, non-humans soon became distant, cold, and unknowing as the fae. Magic soon became unreliable at best, to untrustworthy at worst. The celestial champions of Khaldas became known for the first time, yet seemed indifferent to our plight. Our darkest fears and aspects began to materialize into the first fiends, then our dead started rising from the graves! Did Khaldas abandon us? Are our souls unworthy now? Why did the fae antagonize us? These questions haunted us for decades. Darkness was an accepted life, until light came from the most unexpected: smokepowder. The origin and discovery of smokepowder has been lost, but the invention and usage of these new weapons had changed the fate of mankind. It is unknown why, but smokepowder weapons has either disoriented, immobilized, or even driven off creatures of fae! Weapons once thought useless now were used to drive off the wild ones. Sites of old civilization were once again reclaimed, and brought hope to our downtrodden race. Now, three centuries later, we are rebuilding. New kingdoms and empires are on the rise, havens of civilization endure, and secular study is on the rise, seeking to understand the world we live in and fill in the void that Khaldas' indifference has caused. The times of the old ways may be gone, be we can strive to build a new age, a new age of adventurers.
I hope that I have not bored, scared, or dissuaded you from traveling some more. As I said, this is my more popular tale, haha! Oh! Seems as if your room is all ready for you! Well, I wish you a good night's sleep my friend! Hmm? How do I know all this? Well, let's just say that this is a mystery I hope you discover, along with many others, on your travels. Sleep well dear friend, sleep well"
This world is not your typical D&D world. Here, the world has reached state similar to the Age of Enlightenment. The days of knights, castles, magic is gone. Imagine instead, if you will, a world influenced by Pirates of the Carribean, Sleepy Hollow, Fable 2, and Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. Humans may be the only playable race, they are as varied as they can be. Smokepowder weapons are prominent, but are no means overpowered. If this world interests you, feel free to join! Let us unravel the mystery together...
with smoke(gun)powder weapons, the flintlock pistol is simply a reskin of the hand crossbow. Heavy crossbow is reskinned as musket.
Starting level is 3 and any class is free for grabs. For character sheets just PMing me is good.
Probably will use the DDB campaign area when the roster is getting full.
Also, some modified rules for magic. Any spells that miss their attack, an enemy succeeds their saving throw, or even may auto succeed has a percentile mishap roll. after the failed rolls spellcasters will roll percentiles and the goal is to equal to or less than their number range. The ranges are as follows: Cantrips are 90% 1-3rd level is 80% 4th and 5th level are 70% 6th and 7th level is 60% 8th and 9th level is 50%. Any material components under 1,000gp for spells are unneeded, though using material componets with a spell not only will give you a spell casting bonus, but you will have a better chance at succeeding any mishap spell rolls. Why any spell mishap rolls? The Fae enjoy messing with people and want to see how the world deals with unreliable magic.
As much as a part of me thinks it's too silly, I can't help but be enamored with a cluckromancer. A little bit of silliness wouldn't hurt. Plus some interaction with a mad fey sounds particularly interesting...

I need to go to bed now, but I should have a character for you sometime tomorrow.

Sorry for a late reply, good ol' work in the way. I had forgotten to add that armor will be reskinned to fit the era, and languages are reworked. The languages are Common, Realms, Cities, Dominion, and Isles, to coincide with the regions/countries of the world. Common is this world's version of latin, mainly a religious language that ties the world together. Shields that are available are only the buckler, wich provides a +1 AC instead of the usual +2. If you already have your languages and armor written down, no worries. We'll work on editing it later. The armor and their conversions are as follows:

Gee, thanks. Now I want to play a martial character.

Can I get a +Dex, +Cha human other than the Political State human?
Example: Irish. Your Charisma score increases by 2, your Strength and Dexterity scores increase by 1 each, you gain proficiency in Deception, Persuasion, and either one type of musical instrument or Performance, and you speak (for the purposes of this campaign) Common and Isles.
Personality traits: If someone is in trouble, I’m always ready to lend help. I like chickens.
Ideal: Sincerity. There’s no good in pretending to be something I’m not. (Neutral)
Bond: I worked the land, I love the land, and I will protect the land.
Flaw: I'm just a plain old country boy.
Features: Rustic Hospitality; Animal Handler; Spellcasting (Cha; +5 to hit, save DC 13); Chicken Infested; Master of Cluck-Fu; Font of Magic; Metamagic (Extended Spell, Twinned Spell)
Equipment: A squirrel gun (light crossbow) and 20 rounds of ammunition; an explorer’s pack; three daggers; a flute; a set of woodworker’s tools, a shovel, an iron pot, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp
Hey there folks! I'm one of the players of this campaign prior to this thread being posted.
I'll be playing Edward Jameson, an Arcane Warrior (if anyone wants a link to my class for reference, let me know) and escaped convict for a crime he did not commit, known by rumors as the "Arcane Sharpshooter" during his time on the run.
I'm also the one who supplied the homebrew supplements for Variant Human options to Josh (AKA c3ntur10n1, our lovely GM), and I'll probably make use of them myself one day if I ever GM.
Looking forward to playing with you all.

This sounds really interesting. I'm already getting an idea for a character.... How would you like to choose who joins?

I will also look into more options for humans, to provide more variety and balanced stats

These variants for humans hopefully will help you. Provided by one of my players
I think I'm going to have to go with a plain, ordinary variant human with the Animal Handler feat.
