Ink's scimitar carves through the chilled and brittle leather, and out of the sack tumble the frozen, severed heads of three dwarves—two males, and one female. Harshnag sighs sadly.
The rest of the sack's contents follow in short order, falling onto the giant couch: a giant-sized smoking pipe and an empty barrel, the latter of which rolls onto the ground with a loud THUNK.
A faint blue light shines from inside the bowl of the smoking pipe, causing it to glow. If you peer inside you will see you will find a long and slender ice shard (about the size of a dagger) that contains (within the ice) the ise rune, as if it were somehow branded onto the inside of the shard. You recognize this rune as the same one from Annam's archway, the one that Harshnag had identified. The rune itself is the source of the glowing light.
"I'm glad Flint wasn't here to see this," Ink tells Harshnag. "You are only one of two giants I've met that seem to be okay with us small folk," Ink comments upon seeing Harshnag's reaction to the Dwarven heads.
Ink removes the ice shard with the ise rune and holds it in his hand. Ink comments to Harshnag, "Well, feel free to keep the pipe, but more importantly have you ever seen anything like this before?"
Harshnag examines the shard. It radiates powerful magic. “Ancient, runic magic,” he says. “Heirloom kind of thing. You don’t see these in circulation. Frost giants of old would use rune magic to control the weather and even freeze bodies of water.”
As to the pipe, Harshnag shrugs and tucks it into his belt. “I don’t smoke, but I could always try it.”
We can push forward to the end of the long rest, unless there’s something else you wanted to do. Ink has enough time to rest and prepare his spells, but that’s about it before everyone else is done resting.
After parting ways with Harshnag, Ink camps on the west wall of the stone giant alcove, creating his hut. He spends a short rest focusing on the shard, while being in physical contact with the item, discerning its properties. He then spends another hour attempting attunement. Regardless of the result, he settles in for his four hour trance of rest.
Upon waking, he goes immediately to studying his spells for the day. If his compatriots enter the northern room, they may find Ink either in a trance or studying his spellbook.
Ink follows Harshnag, rejoining the party. He asks Flint, on watch, for the favor of identifying the shard and telling him its properties. If the shard requires attunement, he spends an hour doing so (based on Harshnag's comments I'm betting it's worth Ink's while). He then takes his restful trance of four hours, followed by an hour of studying his spells for the day.
When Ink returned to the party, Quill was temporarily dismissed to her pocket dimension so that she, too, can find rest.
Crownsguard’s pet tressym, Cat, has woken and seems much better. He has taken to exploring, and is very interested in the magical swirling mists coming from the archway.
// Players can go ahead and finish the long rest! //
After studying his spells for the day, Ink tells the others of his previous night's misadventures.
There was a crevice in one of the rooms to the north, but 1) they'd have to figure out how to disable the trap or at least figure out what triggers it, and 2) the crevice was too small for the size of axe they were searching for.
Ink did not see an axe in either the room to the north or the one above it, and so suggests that they try south.
"Second floor of the northern room. Scoured the area pretty well, actually, this was the only one I found.... Speaking of which - here you go Rip..." Ink hands Rip the pole of collapsing.
"There is a crevice about our size in a wall on the lower floor, but until we figure out what triggers that giant boulder, we should be careful. That crevice leads into the actual mountain it seems, so who knows what we'll find."
Ink then points south, and says, *That there though is the only place unexplored of official temple. What say we have a look?"
Harshnag’s greataxe is quite obviously magical and sized for a giant. Its handle is made of some sort of wood and the blade is sharpened steel, and all sorts of carvings adorn the handle and blade.
It differs from the weapons held by the giant gods’ statues in a few ways: it is scaled for a life-sized giant, while the statues’ weapons are double that size. It is also made of discrete and disparate materials, while the giant gods all hold weapons made wholly of one particular substance (for example, Surtur’s greatsword is a single piece of iron, while Memnor’s spear is made completely from mithral). Also, Harshnag’s axe has never ceased shedding light ever since your arrival here at the temple, while the weapons held by the statues are not giving off any luminescence.
Anyone looking at Harshnag’s axe can make an Intelligence (History) check.
Ink looks back at Harshnag, "I don't think the owner of this sack would mind if we peek inside... And Quill seems certainly interested."
Ink struggles to open the sack, using his scimitars to cut the leather straps if he must, and starts pulling things out.

After his rest, he will turn his attention to the others, "Have you found something that will assist us?"

Question, since I am one to stick on ideas here haha, does Harshnag's axe bear any resemblance to the weapons of the other giant gods?
Crownsguard nods, "Agreed. We should attempt to locate it soon. We do not want to burn the time advantage we used to get here."
