With the wind at your back, the flight to the next Uthgardt spirit mound is the shortest one yet. You arrive before sunset.
While you are still miles out, you see the glistening landmark from which Shining White derives its name a 280-foot-tall spire of white chalk that rises atop a rocky hill, overlooking a tributary of the Surbrin River, south of the Lurkwood.
Most of Shining White is buried under snow, but the snow has been recently disturbed in places. Two raised rings of snow-covered earth encircle the altar mound. On the rings, where you might expect to see cairns there are smashed piles of rock, and the altar itself is cracked and fully broken. Even the menhir, the 50-foot-tall standing stones that are common in these sites, have been toppled over and broken.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ink comments, "It must have been an army to knock over those megaliths. Quill, do a low flyover (30ft high), I want to see if there are any tracks in the snow."
Ink will slip into Quill's senses as she does the flyover.
// Perception Check through Quill 12 .... Adjusted to a SURVIVAL CHECK total of 10 //
After disseminating whatever information he could discern, he'll ritually cast DETECT MAGIC and climb down the rope ladder to join Flint.
By communicating with Quill and sharing her sight, Ink deduces that that the trampled snow in many places indicates only one possibility: giants were here, and recently.
After carefully examining the scene for several minutes, Flint is able to observe the direction that these giants came from and the direction in which they went, knows that it was two days ago, and is fairly certain that these were stone giants that wrought such devastation.
There was no pillaging here, and no killing; there was simply wanton destruction. Case in point: the giants reduced the altar to rubble, but did not bother to dig underneath it. They didn’t dig up the buried dead under the cairns; they simply pulverized them.
Ink suggests, "Before we track anything, let's dig out that relic before whoever worships here gets back and thinks WE did this. Most have been under the central altar - stands to reason we start looking there."
// Has Ink's DETECT MAGIC been triggered by anything? Also, wolf tribe had a wolf depression, thunderbeast a raised relief in that shape, elk had an elk shaped depression, given the known Uthgardt tribes, what shape does the depression around the main alter seem to make? //
Using Detect Magic reveals nothing in the general vicinity. It looks like the rubble will be easy to clear away.
Everyone can make a Strength (Athletics) check to see how quickly you clear the demolished altar from the site.
// Check out the image posted above. You can make a Wisdom check to try and see if the shape of the mound is indicative of anything, and you can add your proficiency bonus if you are trained in Arcana, Insight, or Nature (the DCs and info provided may be different for each skill) //

Does any snow cover the fallen menhir, altar or cairn piles?

Don will check for rods. He will then send Edgar out to search for a few hundred yards for anything scary.
He will then climb down and join Flint and Ink.

The menhir, cairns, and altar seem to have been demolished after the last snow; the rubble is relatively snow-free.
Don senses no adamantine rods about.

Ink comments, "The longer we linger, the better chance we have of running into really pissed off barbarians - so, EVERYONE, please pitch in."
Ink looks directly at Matrix as he says this.
He then mumbles along the lines of, "I could have sworn that they would have carved a figure into terrain representing their totem..."
Ink seems to be pondering something and it's only resulting in inefficient digging...
