Meanwhile, the yakfolk attacking Ink is too slow, and the attacks from Ink's scimitars cut deep gashes. Bellowing with rage, the old yak-man tries to use his horns to shove Ink to the ground (Opposed Strength: 12).
Ink attempts to evade the old Yakfolk's bullrush...
Matrix puts a bullet in the head of the yakfolk that had been attacking Crownsguard. The shaggy-haired warrior drops like a sack of stones!
Saarvin does his part by calling out one of the yakfolk warriors that had been shooting at Dontontion. The smaller Dragonborn leaps into ferocious combat, dodging and parrying the yakfolk’s greatsword, looking for an opening to bury his dual blades into his opponent.
The northern-most yakfolk charges against Don, ignoring Flint’s approach and—rage in his eyes—swings his big blade at Don:
Greatsword Attack: 21 Damage: 16 slashing
Greatsword Attack: 24 Damage: 22 slashing
The yakfolk next to Ink likewise attacks his charge, after failing to knock the elf down. “Intruder! You won’t get the best of me!” He bellows in accented Common.
He swings at Ink...
Greatsword Attack: 25 Damage: 13 slashing
Ink can hear load shuffling/banging noises coming from the barn to the northeast, from behind the closed barn door.
Ink misses a parry of the greatsword, having just deflected the Yakfolk's attempt to gore him... Through a grimace of pain, Ink responds, "We were just fine until your chief tried to drug us - you'll share his fate soon enough."
Ink nods and Quill comes flying into view, clawing at the Yakfolk's face (HELP action).
As soon as Quill pulls up out of the way, Ink is stepping into the Yakfolk, scimitars flying about!
"Help Ink, he went eh-atta-way" Matrix tells CG with a non-committal arm wave in Ink's general direction, "I'll help the lizard" he then runs his full movement to saarvin and fires twice
Your blades perform their final slashes. With the staccato explosions of the gun, you find that you have violently dispatched your would-be captors.
The wind howls around you, and the slaves—two halflings in the garden, the half-orc & human in the dairy, and the three moon elves in the chief’s hut—cautiously approach, as if they can’t believe their slavers are actually dead.
Besides the elves, who have wrapped themselves in thick blankets, the slaves’ clothes are threadbare and unsuitable for the weather. The halflings obviously have frostbite on their bare feet.
Ink turns to the half-orc and human, and asks, "Where else are there Yakfolk? Are there only adults and warriors in the village? Any Yakfolk children?"
After they say their piece, Ink advises them to go to the chief's hut as there is a fire there, but don't eat the food and try not to step in any of the blood.
Ink nods at Quill, she immediately takes off to the other buildings immediately around - if there are any open doors or windows she will enter. Should she find a Yakfolk in any of the buildings, Ink asked that she fly back out of the building and 'HOOT' loudly. Once she is done with her initial search, Quill will climb high and then Ink will see through her eyes to see what activity may be occurring on the other side.
While Quill is doing her search, Ink will search the three buildings around him for survivors - he will open doors cautiously, i.e. peek in before opening the door completely.

Don takes a couple days of rations and sets it out for the slaves. "Come, get some strength back."
Don will then use prestidigitation to warm the slaves and clean their clothes as best he can. In elvish he asks the elves, "Tell us, are there more of them? We will need to be prepared."
It is obvious he is hurt. He is unsteady on his feet.
The clean-up process is relatively straightforward. The elf and halfling slaves are most helpful, informing you as to the numbers and locations The members of the yakfolk either fight you to the death or flee into the mountains, leaving behind a couple dozen dead slaves. The living slaves, the ones that you saved from doom at the hands of their masters, are indebted to you, but are all eager to go home. Each slave is weak and half-starved, but Saarvin, the dragonborn ranger, insists that he can guide them safely to their homes if it is required of him.
The Cheif Kartha-Kaya wielded a Flame Tongue Greatsword. He did so easily in one hand, though it is very much a two-hander for any of you. He also work keys around his neck, which look as if they fit the locks of four wooden chests that are easily found under the pile of empty baskets in his grand hut. (Let me know if you wish to investigate the contents of the chests)
The female moon elf slave, Halani, is able to tell you the following (and does so after you clear out the village): "I have seen the yakfolk perform a ritual that allowed them to crawl under the skin of their captives, and take over their bodies somehow. They did this to a patrol of dwarves from the nearby citadel, not long ago, and sent the possessed dwarves back to kill the citadel's king. I heard the chief give the order."
Halani and the other two elves (Jevin and Vandar, males) tell you that they long to be "reunited with our people, in the Moonwood." However, they do not know the way.
The other slaves (the stoutheart halflings, human, and half-orc) say they are all from nearby Castle Hartwick, that they know the way back, and that they are quite capable of making the journey unassisted. Just looking at them, you're rather dubious of their capabilities, seeing as how cold it is and how under-nourished they are.
After a search of the village: All of the buildings in the village are built for creatures the size of the Yakfolk, and are appointed with secure cages for their slaves. The now-abandoned village is a grisly sight.
The Mill: two shield dwarf slaves were murdered here, with arrows, still in their cages.
The Barn: violent boars and docile yaks live here, though the boars are no match for your prowess. Two humans slaves were mercilessly slaughtered here.
Millkeeper’s Hut: You find, amid the clutter, a basket containing 250 gp in mixed coinage, four pieces of fancy bead jewelry (worth 25 gp each), and a potion of healing.
Barnkeeper’s hut: Here lived a trio of Yakfolk, and one moon elf. The moon elf’s body now lies in a pool of her own blood, stabbed clean through with a large blade. You also find a basket containing 150 gp in mixed coinage and six pieces of fancy bead jewelry (worth 25 gp each).
Family hut: Two yakfolk warriors lived in this hut. A moon elf corpse lies on the ground, throat slit. Hanging on the walls between colorfully painted murals of landscapes are four wooden ritual masks carved from wood and decorated with semiprecious gemstones. The masks are worth 250 gp each.
Another family hut, the home of two Yakfolk, contains the corpse of yet another moon elf. This one’s head lies at an awkward angle, neck obviously broken. Hanging from the ceiling is a gold censer (worth 250 gp). Four blocks of incense (worth 25 gp each) are kept in a basket next to the bread oven.
Another hut: This hut holds two rock gnome corpses. Their little bodies have been smashed with some type of bludgeon. Amid the clutter, you find a basket containing ten pieces of bead jewelry (worth 25 gp each).
Farmer’s hut: In the farmer’s hut, no slave bodies are found. This is where the four halflings were kept. Here you find a basket of miscellaneous nonmagical weapons confiscated from slaves, including three daggers, a sling, a pouch containing thirteen sling stones, a hand crossbow, and four hand crossbow bolts. Another basket contains three small leather pouches, the lot of them containing a total of 21 gemstones (worth 10 gp each).
Dairy: In this hut, where Ink found the human and halforc slaves, you find a basket containing 800 gp in mixed coinage, and a carved lapis lazuli pipe (worth 25 gp) resting atop a small table next to a spell scroll.
Crownsguard will pick up the greatsword and weight it with one hand. He looks to the body of the chief, hunching over, his cold sockets glaring at it. Crownsguard tightens his grip on the blade. In an oddly dark tone, Crownsguard mutters, “Lower than your slaves, exactly where you belong. Organics... all you seek is power... and then you abuse it.” However, Crownsguard rights himself and seems back to his normal countenance, “I will take the sword. I believe that this should help me to defend you better. It will certainly be put to better use now.”

As they search the village, Ink collects the various valuables they find and place them into the bag of holding as they find them. Ink takes a quick read of the spell scroll to see what it might entail. ... The only exception being the 800 gold pieces in mixed coinage that they find. Ink suggests that they redistribute that and the weapons, to the survivors.
Ink responds, generally, "If we wait until the morning, I can warn the king himself with the sending of a message. I do not think we are in a proper shape to explore the giant caves within, regardless." To Halani he asks, "Do the giants come up on any sort of regular basis? We may be able to camp out here for a bit - along with the rest of you now freed peoples." In response to the other elves, Ink responds in Elvish, "It would be my honor to escort Halani and the rest of you to the Moonwood - long was I interested in visiting your people. Always am I interested of learning of the other tribes of elves of Faerun. However, we have immediate matters to attend to within this mountain first."
Ink searches the skies for the flying ship, hoping that it is perhaps within range of a message so that he can direct the good captain to touch down in the Yakfolk village.
