Stat wise, before racial bonuses, the entire team is above the average by 2 full points but that is mainly thanks from MaximillanHart and JcAndD who rolled way above average. Of course, I brought it down by being way below average but hey as long as nothing attacks my 7 Intelligence I should be fine.
Also, I just love the idea of about half the team having some connection to Celestials/Gods. As we have a Celestial Warlock, a Tempest Cleric, and possibly a Zealot Barbarian.

IRL, Assassins were originally a religious order, so Xing is... kinda related?

I went with Goliath since I've not actually seen one played in one of my games yet, and you kinda can't go wrong. I'll work on a backstory for Feng "Shieldsmasher" Gathakanathi and should have it at some point tomorrow.
And JacWalke - don't worry too much about tanking. With a shield I'm at 19 AC & thinking I'll pick up Sentinel at 4th lvl. I gotchu.
No stranger to physical prowess, Feng earned a name for himself in his tribe as a young goliath when he would regularly win wrestling matches, even against goliaths bigger than himself (a rare find). After a neighboring orc horde attacked a hunting party and took a few goliaths prisoner, the Gathakanathi tribe went to war … a very brief war. During the battle, Feng earned a new nickname for himself, “Shieldsmasher,” when he destroyed an orc captain’s shield with his bare fists.
Naturally, the coolest thing to do was to take the smashed shield that gave him his name, patch it up with iron bands and use it himself. So that’s what Feng did. Like any goliath barbarian, he enjoys using a massive weapon, and believes that if you’ve got a problem, it can usually be fixed with a Big Sword. But you can’t argue against the glory of fighting with a smashed-up, patched-up shield and a battleaxe.
When the Gathakanathi tribe heard rumors of the Lord of Sands, they decided to send an emissary, a representative to fight alongside the other free peoples and bring glory to the tribe. Feng was chosen, and, after bidding farewell to his family, set off along the long road.
Traveling alone and living off the land awoke a restlessness, a wanderlust in Feng that he’d never yet experienced, a new sensation to wrestle with as he explores the wider world for the first time.
After a month-long journey, Feng has arrived in Akaliree, ready for a fight and searching for opportunities to prove his mettle and the power of the Gathakanathi to the wider world.
Questions:
DM: Where are we starting our adventure?
Players: Do we all know each other somehow? I feel like the story idea so far lends itself better to being more or less lumped together by fortune and fate, but I'd be down for either route.
Donar is the only child of Flint and Amber Blitzbrew. They were the owner of the Port Towns rowdies bar/distillery (The Amber Glow). They were well known for their locally made Rum. Donar was taught all about making Rum and running an inn. However, Donar had a heart for adventure. He would hear the tales of faraway places from all the different sailors that would stop in whenever they came into port. When Donar mentioned to his parents that he too wanted to go explore the world they kept reminding him that he was to take over the inn. On Donar's 20th birthday he had enough of it and decided to sneak away to become a sailor. He managed to convince one of the Captains, a human by the name of Axel, who frequented The Amber Glow to allow Donar on as a crewmate. For 10 years Donar served under Axel on his ship, The Squeaking Gull, and it was on that ship that he learned about the world and discovered his love of maps. However, one night a terrible storm struck the ship and Donar was struck by a bolt of lightning, that knocked him unconscious, during that storm. When he came to Donar found himself in a lighthouse being attendant to by a Halfling named Cade. Cade was not only a lighthouse attendant but a priest of Valkur, God of Sailors. It was Cade who showed Donar the lightning scar on Donar's back, which looks exactly like Valkur's Symbol and convinced him to become a cleric of Valkur. Donar spent 5 years with Cade learning the teaching of Valkur and how to be a proper cleric. Now Donar is searching across this new land hoping to find anyone from The Squeaking Gull. However, his search is put on temporary hold as Demon from ancient times raises up to terrorize the innocent and Donar must put his newly acquired holy powers to use and stop this demon.

The Assassin of the Shifting Sands. The Haunting Vulture. The Silent and Swift End. These are all names... that Xing has given himself. He saw them on various wanted posters and thought that he could do them better. Raised an orphan in the sweltering heat of the desert, Xing was forced to quickly learn to survive. Oddly enough, this lonely bird found training within an order of assassins. He spent years training under them, learning, mimicking. Xing was always a skilled disciple, but he was a ruthless copycat. His master, Al-ahzin Alahad, told him that it was both his greatest strength and his most insidious curse. However, before long, the young bird believed himself ready to leave the nest. He set off in search of gold, fame, and completion. He was surprised to know that killing/arresting people for a living is not as fulfilling as he thought it would be... For now, he’ll just have to settle on being Xing for a while. Maybe one day, he’ll have a new name too.

1.Up until now the lord of sands has been only a myth, a whisper on the lips of the unstable and a story told to keep children in line. Those who are more demonically and spiritually inclined may have heard of this creature but only a whisper as he slowly grows in power.
2.The campaign will begin when everyone has added their finished characters to the campaign (currently waiting on one person).
3.Your characters may know each other if you wish but the beginning will have you lumped together regardless.
{Forgot to say, after the lord of sands reappeared he began attacking smaller settlements but so far that has only been treated as a rumour.}
Hadran is an elf clad in leather armor, wielding a quarterstaff and a wooden shield with a tree motif on it.
Just reached the age of maturity, and his village has "encouraged" him to find his way elsewhere. Doesn't know about the Lord of Sands by name, but whispers about an ancient evil "on the lips of the unstable"? That's him. Has learned not to shout out "the end is near", but is still doom & gloom when people try to make small talk.
He is in Akaliree to try to get stronger, through adventuring (experience, items, wealth). The voices of nature pressure him to act against the foretold evil, but don't tell him where or when (or how to get strong enough to actually stand a chance).

I... Ugh... Got a little out of hand with the backstory. Sorry?
Alexander was born in the city of Helson, a place unlike most. It was mainly used as a trading post between the major cities, a middle ground where the who’s who of influential guilds came to find exotic wares. Due to the nature of the city, creatures of all races were seen running through the streets, and so his Tiefling lineage was a bother to no one. If anything, the odd genealogy assisted his parents run their auction house, as people tended to trust the lesser seen races more than Humans and Elves in Helson.
In turn, he had a pretty happy childhood. His parents weren’t as rich as lords, but because of their business they weren’t ever for want, either. Alexander had a good tutors throughout his life, rarely excelling in his classes, but never being on the bottom of them either. Where he did shine, however, was in talking to others. He was good at observing others, and responding in a way that was advantageous for him. This more than anything brought happiness to his family, since it seemed their heir would be a natural in running their business once they decided to retire.
One day, his parents sent him on an errand to finish off a trade deal. It seemed that a business had gotten behind in payments to their creditors, and were having to offload a large sum of rare goods in order to stay open. His job was to make sure said goods ended up sold by his parents’ auction house, and wasn’t snatched up by one of their competitors. Nothing odd, they had asked him to do such chores in the past, and his silver tongue had yet to fail them. So off he went to a village a few days from his home, pockets full of gold and a mission on his mind.
The journey went well enough, nothing out of the ordinary, however when he got to the business that was selling their wares, he ran into a moral dilemma. It was a clinic, set up to take care of the poor that couldn’t afford healing elsewhere. They took people of all faiths, only turning away those who wished to bring harm to others. A couple well aimed questions had him discover that the clinic was selling their precious items, due to a local crime family strong arming the workers for “protection money”. Alexander had heard the story multiple times in the past, group comes in promising to keep businesses safe from rival organizations, and once it becomes large enough, ends up becoming the bad guys. He had seen similar systems sprout up in Helson, and they always ended up failing in some way or another.
He decided to go speak with the crime family, and see if he could get them to agree to a much lesser fee. He had seen his mother do similar things in the past, and it had always gone well enough for her. However, what Alexander wasn’t taking into account was that she was respected in Helson, something he was not in this town. So when he talked his way past the family’s lackeys, and made it to the people running things, his attempts at manipulation were swiftly squashed. They accused him of trying to make them look weak, and he grew agitated at their refusal to help out such a good hearted clinic. This, of course, did not end well, and he found himself laying in a corner of a room, blood dripping from the stab wound in his gut.
As his attacker grew closer, the patriarch of the family, Alexander felt an overwhelming sense of calm. It was odd, he logically knew that he had no way of surviving this altercation, and yet he felt no fear. There was a glimmer of hope that was welling up inside of him, where it did not exist a few seconds prior. As the man stood over the Tiefling, grinning from ear to ear as his family laughed in the background, a bright flash of light exploded in the room. Alexander found himself immediately blinded, yet the feeling of calm did not leave from within him. After a few seconds he could see once again, yet the room was not like he had seen it last. Where once the thugs had stood, now laid just piles of ash, and a gigantic beast now stood in the center of the room. It looked almost like a stag, however it certainly could not be mistaken for one. Its mane and tail were a dark gold in color, its hooves shone as if made of copper, and two large horns protruded from its head. It was the most glorious thing he had ever seen, and the hope he had felt before had become almost overwhelming.
The creature spoke directly into his mind, explaining that its master had seen Alexander’s act of selflessness and wished to reward him. The stag was known as a Ki-rin, and was there to bond with his very soul. It had rewritten his destiny, and as payment for its power he just needed to agree to fight off great acts of evil. He of course agreed, and as he stood to bow the Tiefling realized he was no longer bleeding. Another flash of light and the Ki-rin was gone, a promise floating through his head that it would return when he truly needed it.
The lackeys of the crime family were nowhere to be seen as he left the room, once again ash being placed where they once stood. He returned to the clinic, promising them that they would not be bothered by the thugs again, and then returned home. He felt revitalized, as if he had a purpose greater than himself, and it brought a smile to his face. When Alexander explained what happened to his family, they found it difficult to be upset. Yes, they lost out on a fair bit of money, but stories of Ki-rins were known to them, and they were proud to know such a Celestial being had chosen their child. They did not fight him when he said he was off to fulfill his end of the Ki-rin’s bargain, just making him promise that he would return when he could. After all, they were far from old, and could hand the auction house off to him on another day.
So Alexander went off on his new mission, to find great forms of evil and stop them. He wasn’t too sure how he would do it, but he trusted fate would intervene wherever he was needed.
Oh, and my missing first level spell is Cure Wounds. I should have access to it, but currently can't due to Celestial not officially being a patron yet.
