"Obviously not as bad as us as it ran back in," comments Gijigume.
'ran back in'. whatyoutalkingabout? Grond heads on over to the cave and looks in. He runs a hand over a wall and the floor of the entry corridor "It doesn't look natural. Worked stone."
You check out the walls and floor looking for... something. Grond is already bored so he walks out of the room to keep guard when suddenly the opening isn't there anymore; it's just part of the wall with Grond on the other side of it.
Just as suddenly the floor isn't there either and you all start falling. Quickly you find yourselves sliding down a smooth slope that is contracting into a single person slide. After what seems forever but was probably less than a minute the slide ends and you all end up in a pile of bodies lying in total darkness.
Best feat? Must be... Lucky? Certainly universally useful.
Lucky was on the list but the winner was (according to them) Magic Initiate and the spell to take is Find Familiar. My response was 'WTF' but then they explained it and it clicked with something else and I thought it would be fun to give it a try. So here we go.
Also on the list was Polearm Master and I now get why you wanted it.
Ah yes, I started a character with magic initiate. I considered Find Familiar, but like Polearm Master I decided to pick it up at a later level. I took Bless, Thaumaturgy, and Guidance instead.
I've seen people discuss being able to summon their familiar through walls and doors, but that's a stretch of interpretation. The spell says it appears in an unoccupied space within range, but it doesn't say in an unoccupied space of your choosing... A smart DM will simply place the familiar in a space of their own choosing.

And the reason has nothing to do with where its summoned. It's already there on her shoulder, her pet owl, Owly McOwlface. Once a fight starts we will quickly find out how useful it will be.
Oh, I'm already well aware of the benefits of an owl in particular, numerous though they may be. It gets one useful ability in combat, though only benefiting one attack it's a very good pet.
RAW you CAN add dexterity to initiative, not must. So you can push initiative closer together between Arya and her bird that way.
Side note: next level Fah'lin learns Find Steed so we may want to look into getting some mounts for the party.
Fah'lin pulls out his staff and lead the way in, creaking loudly. (Perception: 11)

You follow the coridor to a circular room about 20’ radius. The wall and floor are covered with a faint pattern.
Thar will investigate the pattern to see if he can discern any meaning to it. Arcana or History check both at +7: 21
Probably not!
