The Kingdom of Var'lan is on the brink of chaos, as it ever is. You have been accepted as an apprentice into the Broken Brigade, the elite agents devoted to Duke Orin. Dispatched to the frontier hamlet of Brogg to be trained under a journeyman squad and legendary Sergeant Tuugum. The life of a Grey Cloak (as the brigade's adventurers are known) is one of acclaim and adventure as well as danger and intrigue. You will serve as the operatives of the Duke, holding back the frontier and keeping the province from devolving into chaos utilizing methods both inside and outside the traditional bounds of the law.

After being a priest of Helm for many years, Ragnor found himself walking the streets of his hometown, questoning his faith, when he saw a man being robbed. Ragnor quickly intervened and smashed his heavy amulet into the side of the robber's head before knocking the robber out with a single punch. While Ragnor looked at the robber, he see the imprint of Helm's holy symbol impressed into the robber's cheek and heard a voice inside him say, "Helm is the God of protection. Go protect the people". With his faith restored, Ragnor trained in weaponry and became a paladin, seeking to protect those who cannot protect themselves, in the name of his god.
Kaemar always had a lot of questions growing up, her father raised her on his own and as a human clearly wasn't responsible for either the slightly pointed ears or the unusual shape of her eyes. He also didn't seem to be responsible for the scales that grew around down from her shoulders to the middle of her spine, he also swore that he wasn't responsible for the strange tattoos on her forearms but seeing as he was covered in them too she didn't really believe him.
He had apparently made his fortune as an adventuring rogue but she showed no real talents in that area although she was quick and agile but her life changed when sorcerous abilities manifested in her early teens, she was still growing into her powers when violent upheaval struck in the town she was living in, her father, not known for his charity, died saving a family from a burning house and Kaemar was suddenly alone. The inspiration of her father's sacrifice struck a chord and she decided to try and use her powers to bring safety and security to the people by joining the Grey Cloaks

This sounds like fun. I'd like to join. I have a variant human fighter named Corthas Greywind who is a fighter.
Here's his stats and whatnot.
I used Point Buy for ability scores. I'm variant human so I added +1 in Intelligence and Strength.
Strength 14
Dexterity 12
Constitution 12
Intelligence 16
Wisdom 10
Charisma 11
Corthas grew up in the city with a moderately good life. His father was a successful businessman in the city, allowing Corthas to have a relatively easy childhood. Corthas was always interested in the arcane arts, like his brother, but was drafted into the military before he got a chance to join the college of magic. Although he spent most of his time training and patrolling, Corthas found time to study a tome that his brother was able to give to him before he set out. The tome is a book on learning the basics of magic, which has already allowed him to learn how to wield lower energies of magic. Corthas has spent most of his adult life in the military, but still looks for ways to seek more knowledge on the arcane arts.
Briella Moonbrook, like many other Eladrin elves, was born in the twilight realm of the Feywild. There she enjoyed a peaceful life, being taught the ways of a healer by her parents.to heal and care for the sick and injured. It was a job she took pride in and when she was chosen to become a cleric of of the Goddess Ehlonna, she embraced the responsibility trusted to her. However, much like the rest of her kin, she had little interest in the affairs of the material world. She was content to stay in her temple and attend her duties. Ehlonna had other plans. One day, when the city had appeared in the material plane, as it did on rare occasions, Briella fell into a trance. This was what usually happened when her Goddess wanted to communicate with her chosen so Briella didn't fight it. On this day however, Ehlonna would take control of Briella's body and begin to walk her out of the city. While this happened, Briella was being shown visions a kingdom falling into chaos, death, destruction, and a series of catastrophic events that would eventually lead to her own city being put in danger. When she awoke from the trance she was standing in a deep forest glade, outside of her city, as it disappeared back to its rightful place in the Feywild. At first she was angry, what did her Goddess expect her, one Cleric, to do to stop this. How could she take her away from the only home she could ever know. Just as she was about to fall into despair, one last vision came to her, an image of a man dressed in a grey cloak, and a town named Brogg. She was to seek out this place and this man, there she would find the reason for her being here and if she succeeds in her quest she will be guided back home. With the assurance of her Goddess on her side, and the promise of home she begins her journey.

Quick question Duke... For the random rolls I did, should I assume it's in that order (str, dex, con, int, wis, cha)?
I'd be interested in joining as well, I'll try the live rolling like Leon: I have not played hardly at all on the forums and would very much like to get into it. I have been playing with friends in RL for awhile now.
Attempt 3: Ability scores: 8101671612 (3rd time's apparently the charm.)
After playing around with things the concept I would like to play with is that of a Hobgoblin Wizard who is dabbling in Necromancy named Zentar and his familiar Poe the Raven. He has applied to join the ranks of the Broken Brigade to try to learn the answer to his ultimate question "What happens after one dies?"

In combat we will start with the standard initiative system. If you guys would like to experiment with alternative initiative systems we can do that too. See how it goes.
When making an action that requires a check (or you think it requires a check) roll dice for it when you make the action. If I think it's another ability check I'll let you know and we can re-roll.
If you guys are ok with it I can apply experience to your characters as we go. I think the campaign system allows that. That will make it easier to track I can apply for things not strictly combat. (Of course I'll work to keep you guys close in levels.)
I'll try and keep the pace moving from encounter to encounter with clear settings and NPCs.
Let me know if you have any questions or things we should agree upon here at the beginning.
This world is a homebrew. The details will come out as we go but as characters in this world you would know of these details.
The King is a 12 year old child. There are numerous rumors about how the previous King died. It could have been an assassin, a lost battle, a hunting accident, or something else entirely. The government has not communicated an official story to the people. It is not common knowledge if the Queen Mother is ruling as regent or if another party is doing so. All communications come out in the name of the King.
Var'len is subdivided into 2 provinces each with 3 counties. There is also a seventh administrative county in the central north of the country where the King resides and the largest fort in the land gaurds the mountain pass to the Kordial Nation in the north. Var'len has been fighting a war with the Kordialians for generations. There is currently an uneasy truce. That said, all true Var'lenians hate the Kordial Nation unquestioningly on account of the tales of Kordial deciet and brutality.
Speaking of the Var'lenians, most of the core races are represented. Dwarven communities in the mountains to the north. Elven communities to the east in the light woods. Halflings are wide spread but keep to themselves more often than not. Humans outnumber all other races combined in Var'len. Dragonborn are not tolerated on account of the bulk of the Kordial Nation being Dragonborn. Goliaths, Tieflings, and Firbolgs are rare in Var'len but not unheard of.
The Crimson Sea is to the west and with it cities of trade and commerce. These provinces are ruled by Duke Ekcis of House Malum.
Duke Orin administers the Eastern province. Logging and mining are the key industries of the East. The people are sturdy and industrious folk though the whole spectrum of characters populates the land. Your destination, Brogg, sits in the southern most county of Erdo on the border of the wild and untammed Black Iron Forest.
Four adventurers meet in the center of Tok, finding each other by the white scarves they each wear. With only a day to cover the distance to Brogg, you set out immediately with little fanfare.
Post any introductory information you would share with the group on the journey to Brogg. Note, you're moving at a quick pace.
In the early evening, you come to a fork in the road. A sign post indicates that Brogg is both 5 miles on the road to the left and 12 miles on the road to the right. The right also points to Farhaven Mine and Village of Triv.
You must choose a direction quickly if you're to make Brogg by nightfall in either direction.
You see a tall human standing in Tok's center, draped in chainmail armor with a hammer and shield stowed. He was rifling through some notes when you arrived. He sees your approach and the white scarves around your neck(s). In a rather gruff voice... "Good morning, the names Louis - I take it we all got the call to be fashionable ... not quite my style, but orders are orders. Shall we then? Not much time to spare."
At the fork in the road, Louis suggests... "Time is of the essence, unless you have highly important business to attend to in either the mine or village, I suggest we take the more direct route."
FYI - Louis's passive perception is 14. He's being watchful as they travel.
A stout dwarf in chainmail ,with a large shield strapped to his back which displays a large gauntlet with an eye staring out from the shield. The dwarf was sharpening his longsword as the rest of the group approached him and said nothing until they reached the fork in the road, where he says, "Yes, if our directions are to make haste, then we make haste"
Kaemar looks at the signs and the roads themselves as a wind briefly picks up sending her long white hair flying wildly. Smoothing it back away from her tanned skin and retying it she asks "Is there a reason we would take the longer path? Night will come soon and we have several miles still to go, surely better to push on the quickest route as you say master dwarf?" Although she asks it as a question her tone indicates she isn't expecting any disagreement from the halfling.
Hand resting on the hilt of an old but we'll treated shortsword, she turns back to survey the route, as she does she pulls her cloak more tightly around her, she prepares to step down the path, half-turning to see if the other members of the group are going to follow.
