Louis observes Virgil for any tell tale signs of lying, embellishment, etc. // Insight Check 23 //
Upon Virgil's last exclamatory, Louis gives him a hook with his gauntleted hand saying, "Any further outbursts will be dealt not with death, but with pain - much pain."
He then re-adjusts the handkerchief in Virgil's mouth so that he is once again muffled.

Lynistra had been content with the information until the mention of half-breeds at the end. Her hand snapped out as though Virgil sat next to her and it radiated a pale, blue light. Icy began to form and freeze the nerves on the captive's neck. "That's all I need to hear. Can we kill him?"

Merrick stays away from the group during this interrogation and execution. He doesn't like how casually these people end lives. He would just as well have left the man tied to a tree.
Kaemar walks away from the group seeing that Merrick has turned his back on the proceedings - remembering how Tuugum had upset him by executing the bandits the other day she goes over to him.
"He would have murdered you without a second thought, Merrick, he would probably have enjoyed it, but I get why you don't like this. I won't lie to you, I would have killed him myself, I'm sorry if that makes me less in your eyes, but I would not have done it for anger or revenge, just to stop him endangering the mission. Don't stop caring about it though, you'll be less of a person if it doesn't matter when you take a life."
She gives him an affectionate pat on the shoulder and then gives him some space.
"Mr. Louis and Lyn, maybe I should handle the interrogations in the future. Putting him down may have been the right thing, but it shouldn't have been done in anger as a snap judgement.
"Also would have helped to find out if there might have been a reason to keep him around, like a bounty for his capture, or if he had an idiot family that might come after us."

"In all fairness, I wasn't expecting a punch to kill him, and I know enough that I can hurt a guy without outright killing him - the frostbite after the punch on the other hand... well, I wasn't expecting THAT to happen," Louis finishes as he turns to look at Lynistra.
"And I had no snap judgment - he has at least two compatriots tracking you and your friend, and his shouts would have brought them in - I was just trying to shut him up.
"What's done is done, Louis is right about the fact that there are a couple of other guys running around out here and if they are as capable as Virgil was then we should be keeping our eyes open and try and put some distance between us and this".
She gestures towards the corpse.
"So we head towards the mine, but as straight as we can down the path or are we going to try and be a bit more stealthy?"

"In any case, he did provide some useful information, although I doubt that that horn is anything but a horn to call his friends, nor do I believe that the Duke's nephew involved - or at least that this guy would have been able to recognize his ring like that. Also, I don't think whoever is in that mine intended on keeping the dwarves alive... just from a pragmatic standpoint, dwarves are too iron willed to remain prisoners for long."
Responding to Kaemar, "I'd say stealthy is the more appropriate option - sure , only a couple more bandits in the woods, but they can bring down a team of ogres upon us for all we know."
Then stepping over to Merrick, "I'm really sorry you had to see that - the punch wasn't meant to kill him, only to quiet him from calling out his compatriots."
Louis stands up, finishes gathering his things, and prepares for the hike.

Lynistra bristles at the insinuation thwt she was responsible for a death, "Listen to the kettle calling the pot black! Thay cantrip is strong enough to take away feeling and sting, but no more damaging than your damn fist."
Squatting in front of Virgil's corpse, "Good riddance you pile of shit. I would take the stealthy approach as well. We know they have major numerical advantage and are searching. We stand a better chance avoiding or - if we really need to - ambushing their small teams."
Before gathering for the new journey, Lyn notices Merrick, "You going to slow us down?" For a moment, Lyn softens slightly, "People die, especially when they live with weapons in their hand. All great warriors face a moment when killing becomes too much. There's no dishonor in this being that time."

Obviously without having set the marching order before we rolled the ninja-like Louis would have seemed a risky leader but he's ghost-like now so do we get him to lead? Maybe go with Merrick? The rest of us can bring up the rear? I'm easy though.

// No, I agree sneaky and perceptive up front, Louis can bring up the rear. Could we just establish a general marching order going forward so that decisions like this don't hold up action? Then only specifying when it's different? //
If we are trying to be sneaky and single-filed, have Merrick and then Kaemar a bit out in front. Far enough to signal the clankers to stop if trouble is seen, but not out of reach if trouble happens. Then Neegalum (stealthiest out of the clankers), Lynistra, then Louis.
If it is double-filed, then same formation but 2-2-1 (Louis).
If we don't care about sneakiness, then I'd move the two fighters in front, then Merrick-Kaemar-Louis.
