Hi everyone, I've noticed thanks to some of the other threads that this forum is currently lacking some of the preferred functionality for PBP games. However, in the hope that those features may soon be added (or if not, a willingness to use the honor system) I'd like to put out the recruitment feelers for players for a homebrew campaign I've been working on. I've play tested it a couple of times before, and think I've gotten most of the kinks worked out. Of course I thought that going into the second playtest and then rapidly had my delusions crushed. Anyway, after it's done and I've finished polishing the documentation, I'll put it up here or wherever else online for free for anyone else who might want to run it. It's an original setting so it can't be put in the DM's guild.
If anyone is are interested put, down what you're thinking about playing, or feel free to ask questions or otherwise comment! If I get enough interest I'll try to put together what I think will be a good party. We'll be doing point buy or standard array with PHB content only. I've detailed some of the background for the setting below in a manner that is probably not nearly brief enough.
The Setting
This campaign takes place in Kingdom known as Mendalia on an isolated peninsula approximately the size of Florida. Few who have attempted to venture outside the peninsula have returned, and those who have tell tales of enormous beasts and dragons that forced their return. The Elves and Humans have been living together for so long in the kingdom that they've almost entirely bred together. After becoming the plurality of the population the term Half-Elven became a bit pointless and they have adopted the name Hulven for their intertwined race. Being a "human" or an "elf" in this world basically means being a person that primarily expresses human or elven phenotypes. Though there are a few families strangely dedicated to keeping their bloodlines as pure as possible. Tieflings and Halflings are even rarer genetic phenotypes that manifest on occasion and their causes are not well understood. "Halflingism" as it's known is popularly said to be caused by one's parents regularly partaking in "Halfling leaf." Though most scholars will say the connection is dubious at best.
The Dwarves, Gnomes, and Dragonborn each have a home city that makes up the bulk of their population. The Orc tribes wander nomadically in the foothills of the mountain range that runs the length of the western edge of the peninsula known as Urul's Bulwark. Often taken as slaves by Dwarven war parties in retaliation for Orcish raids, their great physical strength has created demand for them as a source of labor throughout the Kingdom. The small population of half-orcs can largely trace their ancestry back to such transactions.
The ability to raise the dead is not uncommon in Mendalia for those who can afford it. However, the price is still far from cheap, usually around a 1000 gold, and thus only nobles or particularly wealthy merchants are able to afford the service.Raise Dead must be used within 10 days of death, so Gentle Repose is frequently used in smaller settlements to insure adequate time for transport. Or as a strategy for buying time till the necessary funds can be raised. However, this has led to the deplorable practice in some temples of convincing grieving families to continually stall for time by paying deceptively pricey fees to have the departed to be indefinitely suspended by use of Gentle Repose. The cost of these fees make saving up the 1000 gold even more difficult and bodies can sometimes be preserved for years before the money is successfully saved up or the family finally gives up hope and stops paying the fees.
Due to being able to nigh guarantee the survival of an heir combined very finite amount of lands to bestow the nobility have taken to the practice of only having a single child. If a noble has a second child it is a seen as a repudiation of the first, that the first is somehow unfit to inherit or rule and the youngest child becomes the new heir. The eldest child is often, but not always given a small stipend to help them set up their new life as a commoner. In rare circumstances, such as when primary heir dies in a matter that Raise Dead is unable to mend and too late in the parent’s life to produce a new heir, the offshoot line will have its youngest member designated the new heir.
Since each noble family only produces a single child, the noble population would half itself each generation. As a result, and also as a means to placate the commoner population, the noble houses hold ‘provings’ to select spouses for their children. The provings are contests to determine a champion among the commoners. The type of contest can be anything the nobles wish. Many areas can be chose from including: combat or spell casting prowess, to scholasticism, artistry, or even Dragonchess. Or some combination thereof for those nobles seeking well rounded individuals. Some noble families have taken to the practice of laying out extremely specific proving parameters when they have a specific individual in mind, but doing so tends to garner a great deal of resentment from the commoners. Once selected, the winner of the proving will take on the name of the noble child and serve as their spouse, but will have no authority other than that which the noble born partner delegates to them.
Seventeen years ago the queen died in a mysterious accident while tutoring her daughter in the magical arts that somehow prevented all attempts at raising the queen from the dead. The king's psyche, utterly unprepared for unexpected death, did not react well to this tradgedy. Blaming his daughter Tagny and having her disinherited and remarried and sired a new daughter. However his condition only worsened and as he has grown increasingly withdrawn, and his second daughter, Valina has grown increasingly mature, talk has grown amongst the nobility of imposing a regency.
Around ten years ago, a new drug appeared and quickly began to ravage the Dragonborn populace. It appears as a small clear crystal that is held in the back of the throat with a pair of tongs. The user then exhales the tiniest burst of their breath weapon which then reacts with the crystal to vaporize into a gas that matches the type of breath weapon. The Dragonborn then quickly inhales this gas causing euphoria and empowering their breath weapon. The drug is known as Crystal Breath[1] and prolonged use causes addicts to lose control of their breath weapon, becoming unable to fire it at will and causing it to go off at random uncontrollable bursts, often causing a great deal of harm to people or property if the fit occurs in a populated area.

A lot of text. Reading the setting stuff later. Until this becomes more like Myth Weavers, it will be hard to play PbP in here (private forums; dice roller & codes and private messaging integrated to the forum; etc.) .
For now, depending on the needs of the party, I would be interested in playing: Class: - Knowledge or Life Cleric (Preferably multiclass with wizard) - Abjuration or Evocation Wizard. - Lore Bard or Thief Rogue (To try, the preferred ones would be the previous two) Race: High Elf or Wood Elf (or Drow for the Bard) Background: Sage, Guild Artisan / Merchant, Outlander or Urchin (Or Entertainer for the Thief, )
Background a**hole who's the warrior of his guild. He ran away from home at the age of 6.His family is worried about him,and his old guild needs him now more than ever. This self trained fighter has a lot to do.p
Note for Dm Oh if you want know to know where he's from he's from the far north.if there's anything else I need to change/answer feel free to ask
I'm interested in playing but I'm in GMT +9 timezone if that makes any difference.
I would say my experience with TRPGs is intermediate and I am honing my skills as a DM with 5e on roll20 with a few friends but have yet to be a player under this system.
I'd also be willing to adjust my character class to the party needs, but would prefer a dwarven wizard if that is acceptable.
I'm not sure when the first session would be. Might depend on if the new features are close enough on the horizon to wait a bit for, or if we should just plow ahead with the honor system and roughing it for the time being.
Actually, out of curiosity, does anyone have any experience with operating these things without set play times and instead just a continuous flow up updates as people are available to respond? I have a lot of random small bursts of free time throughout my days and could probably update on a fairly regular basis in such a system. Though scheduled meeting times could also be attempted to have the occasional leap forward in progress.
For one of the games I DMed with my friends, we used a group chat app (groupme) to RP non-combat situations/downtime activities between sessions sometimes. It worked well for the most part.
Background: Pirate of the Knife Storm, but was dismissed when the ship was sunk by a Storm Giant. Currently looking for a way to have fun killing people.
Class: I would like to either play (Format: Primary class / secondary class | Role | Race) : Warbarian (Warlock / Barbarian | Tank | Half elf, V. Human, Halfling, Drow), Roguelock (Warlock / Rogue | Rogue | Halfling, V. Human, Half-elf), Sorcadin (Paladin / Sorcerer | Bruiser | Dragonborn, Half-elf, V. Human), Glaive Knight (Fighter / warlock or paladin or sorcerer or wizard | Bruiser/Dualist | V. Human), Druid (Druid /(probably no multiclass) Barbarian or Monk | Any | Dwarf, Wood elf), Schitzo Time Mage (Wizard / Sorcerer | Mage | Gnome, High elf, Human, V. Human, Feral Teifling from SCAG)
Background: Varying based on which class.
I have a few questions though.
Is this going to be a full forum pbp or email or what? Are there any excluded races or rules? How will the party get to know eachother and should we work on fitting our backstories into it?
just use www.rolz.net for dice rolls instead of an honor system. You don't need to sign up for their service and can set a password for your game and send the users a private message with the password. Also, if anyone needs a character generator for speedy character generation, you can check out http://gmh.xocomp.net/dd5charactergenerator/.
Hmmm.... I'm a bit iffy on PbP, some... rough issues... over on RPoL and the slow going, how will things be handled?
And are you ok reskinning a High Elf as a Kitsune, I transferred over an Oracle from Pathfinder as a Mystic, and asked the DM for my local wed game as I want him to be my backup in case my current guy goes down, or we just need healing, since we don't have any healers.

Flaws: Likes to kill people, especially dragonborn because of an incident concerning an enemy pirate ship.
I'm always wary of letting chaotic evil characters into a campaign, they need to have a very strong reason as to why they're working with the party not going to betray the party at the drop of a hat.
