I don't think copy/pasting huge chunks of the book like that is allowed, is it?
Also, says nothing about eating people, so why did you do it in the first place? Does nothing to support your claims.
Do you know nothing about orcs?
AD&D 2e
Monstrous Manual:
Orcs are carnivores, but prefer game meats or livestock to demihumans and humanoids.
AD&D 1e
Monster Manual, p.76:
They take slaves for work, food, and entertainment (torture etc.)...
D&D 4e
Monster Manual p. 205:
DC 15: Orcs favor hills and mountains, places pocked by caverns easily turned into defensible lairs. Bloodthirsty marauders and cannibals, orcs venerate Gruumsh and thereby delight in slaughter and destruction.
I just want to remind you that not everyone has played previous editions, nor do they need to in order to enjoy 5e. It doesn't make anyone less of a player.
Umm... you're the one who said that orcs occasionally eat people. All your quotes focus on the orcs preferring to eat non-humanoid meat, or just killing/enslaving. That doesn't disagree with anything I've said, and I see no support for your statement that they "eat humans, elves, halflings etc. .... Elves are a delicacy to orcs," Orcs love killing elves, yes. But eating them? That's not something I support in any text in any edition. I assume that some do it, because its better than starving, but again, not a focus of the race. Killing and looting is pretty common for barbarian hoard tropes, but other than that?
This is getting a little heated, so I'd just like to remind everyone involved that your opinions are valid, but you need to remember that it is ok for others to hold alternative opinions.
On this subject, there isn't a wrong or right as it's not a technical rules questions, the topic is asking about opinions and whether people agree with the game designers.

But when you claim they are just taking information from previous editions then you need to actually be educated with previous editions.
I'm not claiming anything, I'm asking you to chill out a little please. This topic is starting to stray way off topic.
I've locked this thread and it will stay that way for 30 minutes, then I will unlock it again.
I urge anyone who thinks that this is an argument to use that time to go do something productive, maybe take a walk.
It is natural for people to disagree when discussing a topic, but this is sailing very close to the line where people are going to start flinging insults and then moderators have to hand out warnings and everyone is unhappy.
So I think the take away here is most poeple are fine with how they are presented, and the minority that is not won’t be changing the minds of the majority that are.
Gnolls have been very different throughout the editions. From an unholy mix of gnome and troll to now, we've seen a lot of different takes on them.
Personally, I don't like the idea that every member of a humanoid race is necessarily evil. I prefer the Eberron-style outlook that all mortals have free will. But that sort of comes down to taste, and obviously a lot of folks like having the gnolls as presented. So while I might be interested in gnolls with this insatiable hunger trying to be good people in spite of it, as you see in some vampire narratives, I don't have a problem with WotC trying to maintain some narrative consistency in the official material. After all, it's perfectly possible for me to take the Orc or Half-Orc or whichever race and re-skin it as a gnoll if I want to go in that direction.

That's already how things work for most "evil" humanoids in 5e. Yuan-ti, drow, orcs, goblinoids, deep gnomes, duergar and githyanki are evil because they're born into societies that worship evil deities or don't value the life of others. The alignments in their stat block reflects the outlook of the average person born into those societies, not an innate tendency to be evil.

Previous editions aren't relevant to a discussion about 5th edition rules and lore.

A dwarf with a canoe on his back? What could go wrong?

Forgive the poor attempt at editing on mobile, but that is a very subjective opinion not everyone will share.
Edit: Missed mods post, I'll just leave it at what I put above.

I honestly think that Gnolls will become a player race eventually, if Yuan-Ti and Lizard Folk got it, than I think Gnolls are on the way.
