Hunath the White never knew his father, and only knew his mother, but even she was taken from him at an early age, dying from a mysterious illness and forcing him into an orphanage. He was passed from one realm to another, eventually arriving in the Realms, in a town called Secomber, east of Waterdeep.
Throughout, he was teased incessantly for his white hair, with the other kids calling him Old Man Hunath and worse. He left the orphanage, instead preferring a life of seclusion, wandering in the northern edge of the High Moors.
Life took an unexpected turn, when he stumbled upon some temple ruins in the Moor. Recalling his mother tongue, he was able to make out in the faded transcriptions the name Barachiel. Self-nominating himself caretaker of the ruins, he devoted himself to their exploration, discovering a sealed room, unspoilt by bandits from the nearby Dungeon of the Hark. Within was a gilded room, and its centerpiece, a finely crafted greatsword.
Upon entering it, he was smitten by a holy, blessed energy. He fell to the ground, and his consciousness was brought into the heavens.
A beautiful figure stood before him, a woman with warmly glowing skin, like white gold, and two majestic white wings. She was draped in a single cloth garment. At Hunath's arrival, she bid him welcome, saying, "Hunath! My lord bids you welcome. You've arrived just in time, for his sacred grounds are about to be desecrated. You are just the person to defend them."
"My lady," he replied, "who is this lord, and who am I to serve him?"
"Barachiel," she answered. "Do you not remember? The chosen of the Lorcatha have served the Messenger for many generations."
Hunath shook his head. "I know nothing of the Lorcatha, nor of you or your lord."
The woman looked at him for a moment. "So you, too. I see that emptiness inside you. Well, fear not. Serve my lord today and hereafter, and you may gain a soul again."
"A soul?" asked Hunath.
"Yes," said the woman somberly. "You walk the Realms without a soul." Then, with warmth and radiance she laughed. "For now, you'll be lent one." The angelic figure stood, lifting her wings to their fullest majesty. "Come, the Sword awaits. I, Ziamiral, will fight alongside you, and none will be able to defeat us!" She extended her hand, which Hunath took in his own. From a keychain that hung from her belt, he held a single one aloft, and the world shifted. The two were brought back to the chamber in the ruins. Voices were heard outside the door.
"Take the Sword of Livena," Ziamiral commanded. "It will lend you its soul, and its power. Barachiel already has decreed our victory today!" Hunath did as instructed, taking in his own hands the massive, ornate blade. Immediately, he was filled with a power he barely understood. Ziamiral, herself cast her own hands to the side, and each transformed into a holy blade. "Come!" she said with glee, running out the door and leaping into the sky.
Hunath followed.
When the final bandit was slain. Ziamiral handed her set of keys to Hunath. "Take these, and the Sword. May you use them to recover your soul." With that, she stepped back, took flight, and disappeared into the sky.
From that day forward, Hunath served his lord Barachiel, upholding the causes of the righteousness and piety. He became particularly invested in the welfare of orphans, becoming their champion when they needed defending, and a generous benefactor.
One such orphanage existed in the Dessarin Valley. The newest member of the family, Strix Beestinger, attracted his particular interest. In visions, Barachiel revealed to Hunath that Strix knew the location of a fragment of a Lorcatha soul, bound within a box in a foreign land. Whether that fragment is his or another's, he seeks to free it, returning it to its rightful owner.

Description:
Hunath the White does not strike an imposing figure at first. He is not especially tall, barely over 5', and wears a mantle with a hood pulled over his head, such that his face is partially obscured most of the time. His long, grey locks tumble out from the cowel.
He is armored. A war-worn but clean breastplate is buckled in place atop some unassuming linen clothes and leather, in natural whites. Some simple pants and tall boots complete the ensemble.
For weapons, he carries a longsword and a whip to one side. Another weapon, the Sword of Livena, is a hidden greatsword, resting in a chamber in the Citadel of Stars in Celestia, waiting to be summoned to his aid. It stands as tall as Hunath himself, but is wielded with ease.
Barachiel, the Messenger (Book of Exalted Deeds, page 125):
(bah-RAY-kee-ehl) rules Lunia, the bottom layer of the great heavenly mountain [of Celestia], also known as the Silver Heaven. He commands Celestia's defenses against incursion, though he rarely has much to do in that capacity. In addition, he is the herald and messenger of the archon paragons, even visiting the Material Plane on occasion to deliver messages of the utmost importance. He leads the trumpet archons and is a patron of the mortal heralds as well.
The Citadel of Stars is Barachiel's home on the shore of the Silver Sea. A towering fortress with gleaming white marble walls, the CItadel entertains an almost constant stream of trumpet archons coming in and going out on their missions across the planes.
Barachiel's sword is electrified, and he carries a trumpet that sounds like music when played, but causes those who hear it to become paralyzed.
Barachiel's emissary (via Planar Ally) is a sword archon (BoED 161) named Ziamiral (BoED 127), who, when not summoned to the Material Plane, serves in Barachiel's standing army, charged with defending Celestia. Since attacks are rare, she spends a great deal of time preening her feathers. She wields armblades, turning her arms into two +2 holy flaming longswords, and can dive at opponents, discorporating them and sending their soul to a Celestial prison to be ransomed by an act of goodness.
On Hexblade:
Hexblade is the mechanic of Hunath's class. However, the blade granted to Hunath (the Sword of Livena) is not gifted by the Raven Queen, but by the archon paragon, Barachiel. Hunath's abilities are thus reflavored with a holy justice bend:
"Hexblade's Curse" is now called "Brand of the Righteous."
"Hex Warrior" is "Heaven's Warrior."
"Maddening Hex" (invocation) is "Soul Harvest"
"Accursed Spectre" (gained at 6th level) is "Pennace", forcing a soul into momentary servitude, beginning its redemption from a life of sin.
The spell "Hex" is simply "Judge", and deals radiant damage instead of necrotic. ...etc.
Design-wise, he is more like a paladin archetype than a warlock. He can become judgmental, vindictive, and filled with holy wrath, but more often he exercises patience, mercy, and understanding.
In combat, Hunath will smite his foes twice with his greatsword, or perhaps blast them with a crackling light (Eldritch Blast).
He uses Thunder Step for occasional bursts of mobility, but can also disable combatants with Hold Person.
In moments of great intensity, his humanity is cast aside and he takes on an angelic form, sprouting feathery wings and sparking with a radiant energy. He is willing to draw enemy attacks toward himself, using either Blur or Armor of Agathys, but is just as willing to work cooperatively and tactically with his allies.
Out of combat, Hunath is aloof and pensive. His comments are short but insightful. He attempts to understand others and situations before casting judgment, using abilities like Gaze of Two Minds and Comprehend Languages to gain empathy.
