How did your favorite character die? Last week, after the death of a character I was having problems roleplaying, I wondered about how many dead characters were out there. I needed a little closure, so I created a website ( http://undead.live/ ) to house the dead. We've got about 500 now, of all kinds... it's not much, but we've had a great response - nearly 12000 people came the first two days to post and read through them.
This being DnD, though, I thought it might be cool to add a little necromancy, and make "flavored undead" that have backstories and history... so other DMs can raise your character and use them in their own campaigns. I'm still expanding the capabilities of the "raise" element, logging clicks to "empower" the undead... more to come.
So .. what qualifies? Only characters who perish during play - or also loved characters that are no longer played?

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
thank you for reviving this thread. this is an AMAZING resource for flavoring undead for my campaigns, but also I have been on the verge of tears reading all of the ways people's beloved characters have been killed in their own campaigns. It's just such an amazing concept for a website.
Made a pact with a God to momentarily become one, managed to drive out a major antagonist, trap him in the abyss, destroy this massive tree from hell that allowed demons to attack the material plane, restored Mount Celestia after it had been destroyed, killed an Abyssal God, then the time limit ran out and I died.
i wanted it to end there and was okay with making a new character but she ended up being brought back in a few sessions because I was one of the strongest characters in the party (this campaign is still running and heavily homebrewed so some PCs are significantly stronger than others.)
