In the last session I ran, the PCs encountered into a Yellow Musk Creeper, the version that is in the Fifth Edition Foes book from Necromancer Games, where if you get charmed you start losing intelligence points when the creeper attacks. One of the PCs, a Ranger, got charmed and lost a lot of Int, he now has a 4.
We've already decided on most things, but what he really wants to know is how to play the character until he can get his Int back. He still has a 20 Wisdom, and an 18 Charisma.
I suppose in that instance he would be about as functional as any well-adapted predator. He doesn't really think or reason, he just acts, but he acts like anything that knows its environment would. You know, like a big dumb coyote.

That's actually not far off. A quick perusal of the MM shows that with an Intelligence of 4, he has the same score as a baboon. This means, that he is currently smarter than most animals (most have a 2 Intelligence). That Wisdom score in this case would indicate a nigh-supernatural instincts and senses. That, combined with the high Charisma, I'd say the best way to play the character would be as a really intimidating primate.

Any input would be great.

"The Epic Level Handbook wasn't that bad, guys.
Guys, pls."

I like the idea of him playing like a baboon with a super 6th sense.
