i am not much of a story writer but i have an idea for a campaign i wanna make them run through all of the legend of zelda series in some what chronological order except windwaker unless you can make it workout i will happily accept a message on discord for me to give you more information unless i am at work i will get back to you as soon as i can when i find a person i will pull this from the forums.
You might want to take a look at your players backstories and try incorporating that. Why would some being go out of his way to capture them and trap them specifically in the game worlds? Is he actually trapping them in the world? Maybe he cast some magic which altered the very being of existance and some action of the gods or your character's backstories prevented them from changing with the world while everybody else turned into the npcs from the game. How do the npcsreact to the change? Do they react? Do they even know that a change took place instead of having always lived in their game?
Maybe after completing one game the thing that changed the world notices you and tries to change your pcs into npcs or flat out kill them because they don't belong in his game world. Or if he trapped them he could be running things in the background corrupting the game.
I don't know, these are just ideas that came to mind after reading your idea. It's a really cool idea and sounds like a lot of fun.
Hopefully these questions will help you flesh out your story more :-)
I agree with altering the very being of existance, because the point of doing that is to break through the fourth wall example defeating gannon at the end of the game in the real world leads to the end of the game but on the other side of the fourth wall the same battle with gannon is just the beginning of the game so its a simple matter of polarity reverse the beginning over to the other side and then defeating gannon leads to the center of the breach in the fourth wall and at the same time beginning the game with say gannon kidnapping the princess leads to the center of the breach once both sides have been accomplished they travel on to the next part of the game. basicly the point is there two ways of looking at the way time moves in game theres like how discord works people make posts one going under another and theres how forums works where the next post goes on top of the one before it so like defeating gannon might be done in a discord style because its where you plan the campaign and when gannon kidnaps the princess it might be based on the part where they defeated him because when you change the direction of the story to a forum style what you did last "defeat gannon" ends up happening first but in a way that that can still be seen as happening last because part 6 of the story would be at the bottom where as part one would be at the top and its a matter of perspective if you believe that should be traditionally the first part of not but either way both sides of the story could possibly just lead toward the breach .
so I given it some more thought and if you use a six part story scenario building thing (and play it through there in a discord style) and its on the left side of the breach of a portal through the fourth wall and you use a forum to make a post for each of the scenario's but starting with the last part of the scenario first on the forum that leads to the breach from both sides. so the point is that this breach leads to the next game but lets say like there time travelers out there theres like 5 games or something and they can go to them in any order one could be like lets not save the princess well go fight in some mud monsters and collect enough mud to come back to that time and then well build a trap to stop gannon from reaching the princess so he falls in a mud pit.
sorry for so many posts but theres one more thing I left out because of the nature of two different ways of traveling in the breach when traveling away from gannon kidnapping the princess to where they fight mudmonsters it might be good to have the players say which form of travel they are using since discord style might be moving right (inside the breach) and forum style might mean moving left so theyd be maybe having to move 2 games left if they used one style and one game right if they used another might be important if people can not just jump from game 1 to game 5 but instead have to solve some kind of skill check to get from one game to another.
the original idea was have them make characters based on the series not using elves and such but the races of the game i just would appreciate a story teller to help me out i have the mechanics the items the combat the base idea but the story is where i lack cause i am not that much of a story teller yeah sure i can obviously use the games them selves but it sin't much of a story then you are the hero kill ther bad guyand the one main ideal for it is that from game to game they have a choice keep the master weapon based on the class that finds it and the monster grow stronger and the people more fearful cause hey kept the weapon or they give it up and the next 'game' basically resets
i will read this on my break but here is a bit of a jist for ya

I generally like to write stories. But, I’m not saying I’m a wizard at it. Being a new DM myself, it was difficult to form a story around player’s actions that were random at best. Not sure if you heard this advice already but, focus on starting a story but not ending it. Your players will find ways to do that.
Another thing is that once you have an outline or a whole story written out, your players could literally shit on it and disregard every portion of it.
But moving on, what are your thoughts?
What time does this take place in? What’s the the ulterior motive? What’s the general motive of the players? Is this good versus evil? Is the story going to be karma based? Who’s the big bad? What cities or factions are included in your world?
These are just some questions to think about when formulating an adventure. I wouldn’t focus to much on the details, because most of it will end up getting missed during the play through.
If you want to actually write a story, id just record what goes on during your sessions and using those parts, forming a bigger story out of it. Not all great adventures need to have lavish encounters, life or death situations and overthrowing a huge power. Sometimes just a band of people starting a bar fight is a good story in itself.
I hope this gives you some ideas, or atleast answered your question.
Awsome I like the new info about the master weapon, I still think the two different methods of playing apply to making the story even in a chronological since if your using a forum game 1 written first would appear under game 2 so that wouldn't look chronological. so it might be helpful to think of things in a circular logic way maybe build the kind of special abilities or skills the players can train based on what master weapon they get and give it a exp amount so that each mud monster monster they battle can be set to give 1 point that increases their ability to use like intimidate for example for a fighter class by 10% per point so that way they would need to fight 10 mud monsters to learn that skill from their master weapon in game 1. so even though the chronological order is game 1 game 2 game 3 if its being done in a forum in order to have it be game 1 2 3 from the top town game 3 would have to be what happened first game 2 second game 1 third and thus if people want to travel left they would play on a forum and if they want to travel right they might play on discord but what if you have both a discord game and a forum game then wouldn't people be able to choose which form of chronological game they wanted to play in ?
also this circular logic is how to make the story just look at the word chrono-logical its 2 words so if your playing a game and the player needs to be circular to get to the next game they got to find both parts of chrono-logical then they figure out how to play the role there trying to play then since its a three part thing the other part of the puzzle being themselves they always have that when they try to slip into a role like a wandering-traveler or a chrono-logicalist but its up to the builder of the story what kind of things make up a scene in the scenario that will help to supply player with the fuel to go like use fighter at determine motivation gain knowledge for chronologicaly being a wandering traveler to be a fighter who is a dwarf hermit.
something like that you can put things like is there a primary success or a secondary for people who make it through the scene but don't really quite fit the role right maybe they find the local part of the role first then the chrono via finding the café where local logistics are done first and then the bazaar where people buy the chrono and thus they create the role of logicalchrono which is not what you wanted and then they get a secondary success etc.
If I were you, I'd try to contain your vision a little more. If you want the PCs to go through a Zelda storyline, or at least something tightly resembling one in theme / structure, that's fine. Just remember that one incursion from Ganon can be a campaign all on its own.
Beyond that, fighting the same villain over and over again can get dull in a DnD world. If you wanted to incorporate as many of the games into one plotline as possible though, I'd probably blend Ocarina and Twilight together somehow.
Evil Sorcerer / Warlock / Wizard dude starts to conquer the world. Maybe they discover a dark world where he's already won too? Go crazy with this part.
PCs kick the tar out of him.
The group later meets a seemingly unrelated baddie doing some kind of more localized destruction, a la Zant.
After defeating Zant stand in, it's revealed that evil dude wasn't actually dead, and he was controlling not-Zant the entire time.
PCs have one final showdown against original big bad, wherein he reveals his true form (TM). After PCs defeat him, he is dead for real this time.
PCs try to rebuild the world around them from all the devastation, as smaller chums try to fill the power vacuum left by big bad.
That incorporates two of the Zelda games' broad stories under one narrative arc, with bonus points, leaving space for another villain like a Vaati or Majora knock off to come in. Any more Ganon/"I can't believe it's not Ganon!" than that and the overall plot will probably become messy and repetitive. Unless you broke it up over multiple campaigns maybe? Hmm...
I like the overall idea of telling a Zelda/knock off Zelda story in DnD, but trying to put all the games under one campaign will just get drawn out and tedious quick. And don't even think of giving your PCs time travel, that'll become a logistical nightmare fast.
It's implied in the rest of my post, but I'd probably make the story more Knockoff Zelda than actual Zelda too. The reason is that if the characters are distinct and your own, you have a lot more room to mold them to better suit the campaign without worrying about what Nintendo says is canon. You and the players become the arbiters of canon if it's your own world which gives you a lot more freedom to invent your own places and change things on the fly, as you will inevitably have to do. The Zelda characters can be more like a template for you to mold over the course of a campaign, rather than having to shackle yourself to Hyrule, Zelda and Ganondorf.
