I'm thinking about making a campaign setting taking place in an alternate dystopian version of Toril. It shows the rise and fall of a technological fantasy empire (think shield guardians, but different), with a wasteland of warring tribes, small settlements of people trying to recover, wild magic powered robots, and strange quests of uncovering secrets from the past. The landscape is mostly similar, with a couple new deserts and overgrown forests here and there, but there is no such thing as "calm weather." The weather was cursed with extreme conditions (colder mountains, hotter deserts, moister jungles, etc.) and once a tenday, there is the firestorm: Black clouds cover the sky as minor fireballs shoot in all directions, causing catastrophic damage. If you would like to use this campaign setting, please give credit. I made this chat to see if anyone had campaign ideas or something.
Lore:
The name "Toril" long forgotten, society now calls their dead planet "Obitus" (I used the latin word for death). Most of society is filled with scavengers, and adventurers can usually sell scrap parts from "Udrians" (name from fantasynamegenerators.com), the robots that caused the destruction of society due to a mad (and very dead) sorcerer that cursed them. the ones that survived now run wild. There are many ruins to be explored.
Races (subclasses below):
Elves (more seclusive than ever)
Desert elves
Wood elves
All underdark species went extinct, but not the underdark itself (a common phrase is "Don't go the way of the drow!")
Dwarves
Mountain
Half dwarf (the halflings all died out, but this race consists of dwarves with halfling blood)
Humans (same ethnicities)
See poll
Classes (due to lack of faith during the end of the world, all religious classes ended):
Fighter
Ranger
Wizard (magic is particularly feared, it did ruin the world)
Rouge
Sorcerer (very rare, only from multiclassing)
Backgrounds stayed the same, except the hermit and acolyte backgrounds were replaced by the scavenger background.
Tayn of Darkwood. Lvl 10 human Life Cleric of Lathander. Retired.
Ikram Sahir ibn Malik al-Sayyid Ra'ad, Second Son of the House of Ra'ad, Defender of the Burning Sands. Lvl 9 Brass Dragonborn Sorcerer + Greater Fire Elemental Devil.
Viktor Gavriil. Lvl 20 White Dragonborn Grave Cleric, of Kurgan the God of Death.
This seems like a pretty fun idea! :) I never really considered monks a religious class since their power isn't tied to the divine, but in the context of The Forgotten Realms they are often associated with religious groups aren't they. Although since Ki isn't divine in nature, I wouldn't be surprised the monk techniques survived in some way.
Then again that's probably just my Fist of the North Star obsession though ;) The setting looks good! :)
I imagine with scavenging ruins there should be a lot of healing items to find and/ or craft to compensate the lack of healing. Also, are you thinking of including advanced salvaged tech (including guns) a la Fallout?
I have had similar ideas, and have actually been wanting a bit of a change in the Forgotten Realms. I've started multiple threads discussing how this could happen, but I've mainly been focusing on what would happen if the Blood War ended.
There are multiple outcomes for this, but all of them would be devastating. IMHO, if the Demons won, the world would become a gray wasteland, similar in a sense to the world of Fallout.
Here's the thread discussing the multiple possibilities of the Blood War ending:

Not sure if that works for your concept, but I've always considered Dark Sun to be the post apocalyptic Toril.
More Interesting Lock Picking Rules
It would be similar, but would have Toril's settings, except in ruins and more extreme weather.
I LOVE IT
Thanks!

I think I will create an obscure recreation of the monk class, but I'm still considering concepts.

I am aware that there already were a few guns in the FR's past, so I might.
Hey, sorry for the necro.

I also like how you had the name of Toril change, which I have as well in my own versions of these thought experiments.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
