Have you ever heard of the Valravn of Danish legends?
Take a moment to consider the Valseagull.
Long ago a pirate warlord died in a gruesome battle against the navies of Good Civilization and, as he lay drifting on the sea, his heart was eaten by a seagull.
He inherited the pirate's memories and abilities after devouring the heart and becoming a forsaken undead creature. He can also turn into a flock of seagulls or a singular giant seagull. This doesn't work too well for combat as seagulls have webbing, not claws. He can also call on lesser seagulls to do his bidding.
He wears white, gray, and black armor and has a messy, gravity-defying mop of pale blond hair. Because of course he needs a Flock of Seagulls haircut. This rat with wings now is a restless and bloodthirsty undead that is joining a group of adventurers in the hopes of finding a heart to devour that will set him at peace. The heart of a child? No, he needs to devour the heart of a sea otter. (That's also a very chaotic evil thing to do, in case you are wondering.) He is praying the party paladin does not pick up 'Detect Evil.'
On the theme of wrong-stats classes: Wrong equipped classes - Paranoid Wizard or Ranger who wears plate no matter what anyone says - needs the protection, which comes with all kinds of other problems with the abilities. Monk who uses anything other than Monk weapons and unarmed - no proficient items including no improvised weapons, either. It's against the Monk's monastic order.
I read about a Paladin that could only wear kitchenware as armor and could only use improvised weapons that were also kitchen utensils. (Can't remember if it was a curse or part of the Paladin's Order's rituals - possibly a bit of both? Can't remember where I read about this one.)

Yuan-Ti Monk is actually pretty good, especially after 14th level, when they get proficiency with all saves. Then they have proficiency with all saves, advantage on saves against magic, and have Evasion for dexterity based saves, which cover most of the most popular area of effect spells, like Fireball and Lightning Bolt. In addition, Stilled Mind allows them to remove conditions such as Charmed or Frightened fairly easily, so you just end up with a character that is resistant to almost everything.
I primarily only do very serious roleplay based campaigns these days so the humorous one-off joke characters aren't in my collection anymore.
HOWEVER, back in the day I played a Male Gnomish Bard who was a hoarder. Encumbrance of useless crap from everywhere came to the point of needing aide to move around. I commissioned a carpenter to build be a wooden wagon to store all my random crap in it and bought the only animals I could find in the town to pull the wagon, it was a team of 4 pigs.
When I say I was a hoarder, I literally had to take something from everything, killed a giant spider.... sever part of one of it's legs to bring with me. walk into a dungeon.... start taking candles off the walls. Find a cool looking rock on the ground.... yep that's going in the cart too.
I kept trying to find creative ways to use crap i had to get the party out of situations we faced.

Well, at the very least Half-Orc wizard is not a bad idea from a character optimization standpoint. The main weakness wizards have are their squishy natures. A properly built half-orc wizard is surprisingly tanky, and can still be very good at wizarding. And from a story standpoint, it's not even nearly as weird as the Succubus Paladin (back from 3.5 when Paladins needed to be LG), and the Succubus Paladin was actually an official thing.
There are situations where people IRL will sneeze as a reflex from situations like being full from eating, looking at a bright light, hearing a particular noise, feeling a specific texture, being "aroused", etc.
This character sneezes when tense or anxious... and is a stealth-focused Rogue.

I had an idea for a changeling who totally forgot what his true form was and now has split personality disorder. After every long rest, he has a completely different personality. He's also a cleric, and he also ends up worshipping a new god for every new personality.
A player had a character that was an alcoholic and the player would take a shot whenever the character did.
Do not do this! The stories surrounding the player and the character were rather annoying at best. This kind of method roleplaying isn't smart.
EDIT: ...and this made me think of something:
A flatulent character and the player has a whoopee cushion. A 15+ roll on a d20 for the character (attack or save, even death saves), the character rips one and the player gives the cushion a good ole' squeeze from under the table. Party stealth attempts, ruined. (You should start worrying if you take away the cushion and the noise continues.)

A character of any non-magical class who only believes in the Mundane world. Anything that the character doesn't believe, the character cannot see.
Character: "Attack what?! There's nothing there!!"
Chromatic dragon: *pauses* "What's up with this one?"

Does he worship Anoia?
What a true monster :(
Full of rice, beans, and bad ideas.
Does the heart need to be separated from the rest or can it just be taken whole?
(Never really understood why the heart must be removed in situations where it all seems to end up the same regardless if removed or not.)
EDIT: ...and now I'm thinking of a character that overthinks absolutely everything.

I once made a half-elf druid named Lego less. They had a crossbow.
(It is barely different than Legolas, who is one of the most cliched DND overuse.)
