Pike, Grog and Scanlan were the best parts of campaign one in my opinion. The contrast between Pike and Yasha is like night and day.
That being said, I am enjoying Yasha but since she had not been present to play, her character is kind of stuck in the same place she started. I wish that Ashley were on the show more often so that she can get the development that the rest of the characters have had. The last episode was great and provided a much needed character reveal to help move her forward to catch up with the group, but at this point she is a year behind in the development of her character and that makes me a little sad.
I agree with Golaryn. For one thing, Yasha's personality isn't nearly as strongly in your face as, say, Jester or Nott. So the character development would naturally be more subtle and slow anyway. Adding in the fact that Ashley has only been there 18 of the 46 episodes, that will unfortunately seriously impact how developed her character is. So I think it's a combination of the two with a quieter character and just simply not being there to form the same kind of bonds the other characters have with each other. Plus with recently just dropping in for a single episode here and there, it did seem to unfortunately be a bit of "odd one out" where all of the other characters have had time to grow interesting dynamics with each other and she hasn't yet.
However, looking back at the ever useful Crit Role Stats, it looks like she reliably has an uninterrupted stretch from mid-April to late-June/early-July that she should be around. It's a bit of a wait, but she should have plenty of development and fit in far better during that time.
Mid-April to late-June/early-July is probably the window between shooting seasons of Blindspot, which films in New York. Right now is probably when she's on another shooting break. When she's not filming, she goes back to L.A. Personally, as much as I'd like her on the show, too, it would be fairly unfair of me to ask her to sabotage her career for a silly game.
Side note: Blindspot stars Jaimie Alexander, who plays Sif, one of my favorite characters from the MCU. I would spend all the money to get a movie staring Lady Sif and Valkyrie (played by Tessa Thompson). Maybe it can be a Disney+ show. I don't care. As long as they put together the two (in my opinion) most ass-kicking Asgardians in the Nine Realms. Yes, I that includes Thor.
Ashley Johnson is apparently voicing the lead in a new show for Cartoon Network, coming sometime 2019 but probably fall. Their studio is in LA, which presumably includes their VO studio.
I don't know anything about Blindspot. I tried to get into it, watched the first episode, it just felt like retread ground to me. But I know Ashley's a side character. I wonder if she is being written off, or if her contract is coming to a close, and this cartoon is her next career step.
If it is true that Ashley Johnson is going to be transitioning from NYC actress to LA voice actress, then she may very well become a more permanent fixture of the show.
The flipside is that even though Ashley Johnson voiced the lead in the 2016 pilot, she might not continue to be the lead now that it's been picked up three years later.
I think you misunderstand. Ashley Johnson is still on Blindspot. Her being in L.A. is a temporary thing. I don’t know when she’ll be going back. The season could’ve wrapped already, or it’s on a filming break.
In television, they don’t work year round on one show. There are periods where they don’t work, especially between seasons. Actors use that down time to work on other projects. Ashley Johnson, being a VO actor, probably does VO work during that time. She might also do VO work when Blindspot is filming, being that she’s a supporting actor, and doesn’t have the time commitment that the leads have. Since you don’t have to be in the same room as the director, much less the other actors, it’s possible that she also records at a recording studio in New York. That’s not to mention that some studios and show runners try to work with their actors if they get hired for other stuff. That’s how Chris Pratt was able to film Guardians of the Galaxy while Parks & Recreations was still on the air. The story arc with him going to London was 100% allowing him to go film Guardians.
Right, not a misunderstanding, just not mentioned. Only mentioned the high hopes option, she's back in LA for good, and the opposing option, they got someone else.
I'm torn on which theory I like best. Spoiler tags since it's under 24 hours since the episode.
Theory 1 is that Nott was true polymorphed into a goblin but is really a halfling. Not sure I like this one as much as the others. Theory 2 is that Nott's tribe killed Yeza's wife and Nott then used magic to make herself look like Yeza's wife for whatever reason. (This relies on Nott having had disguise self prior to the start of the campaign but she wouldn't have had magic until L3 as a rogue and that's where they started the campaign, so this is up to interpretation.) And then theory 3 is what KenMarble just posted, which I hadn't heard before. I kind of like 1 and 3 the best but I bet Matt and Sam have cooked up something really juicy.)
I almost couldn't sleep after last night's episode, just so intense the last hour and everything that happened before was great too! For me this was the Chroma Conclave attack of Campaign 2. So good.
There's so many good theories, it's hard to choose which one I like the most for what the hell is going on!
Just to complicate it even more, and probably over thinking things, another thought occured to me:
Magic jar - There's some definite instabilities that I think make it less likely, but who knows?? Well, Sam and Matt know! And I hope next week Nott opens up about it and doesn't keep it secret longer, although I doubt the others would let her!

Oof. My brain may have just broken. I didn't even know about that item? Or is it a spell? Whatever way this cookie crumbles I think it's as big a secret as whatever Fjord is still hiding.
So ive been out of the loop on Critical role for a while, and im only on episode 20. should I just skip to the live episodes and fill the rest in when i can?
i didnt even notice the thread was changed, yeah we should go back to that

Gotcha.
Blindspot is still ongoing, and Ashley's character is a 'supporting' character in every episode. Patterson is very popular. :)
On top of Blindspot and Infinity Train, i believe she is also doing pickups/additional VO for Last of Us 2 when she is free. busy busy Barbarian!
I liked the pirate arc a lot, but is anybody else excited for the crew to get back to the mainland?
I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
About tonight’s episode: (spoilered since it’s just minutes ago)
Me an hour ago: Wonder how long we will be in town before we start getting into Nott’s back story.
Me now: (Curled into a ball mumbling to myself) Wow. I mean we knew... but yet we didn’t know. I just... I... Wow.
:)
This is going to be intense for Nott *and* Caleb.
I have so many questions. That was a very unexpected bombshell.
Plus, just putting out my wife's and my pet theory (spoiler tagging at least until the episode is posted on YouTube on Monday):
1) Nott wasn't entirely honest when she told her back story.
2) The goblins did kill Beth.
3) Matt expanded the Reincarnate table to include other races.
:)
I'm not putting a high confidence in this being true, but it would be really interesting!
