I just finished my last semester in college and have recently renewed my journey in D&D from many years back to 2E when I had time for it. Now that I am free to play again, I've been able to start one new small group, renew an old even smaller one, and it's been great.
During this renewal, I was able to stumble across Critical Role, and I've been addicted ever since. I am currently on episode 27 (the cow episode,) and I plan to watch every single one until I am caught up to the new upcoming episodes. Huge fan here! Matt Mercer is a genius. I love everyone's energy at the table. You can just tell there's nothing but positive energy, fun, laughter, and love from everyone. Grog is a joy. Tiberious is absurd but amazing. Most of all, the true gem of the show is Scanlan. Every game needs a player like him. Absolutely, hilarious. :)
At any rate, once I'm caught up, I'll check-in and read some of the spoiler sections. It's good to see fans of the same thing as I am, and I love that D&D is alive and well!

Just an FYI, a new campaign started last night, all new characters, new world, etc. So if you start watching from last night forward you won't really have spoilers I would guess, I'm sure there will be references and what not, but probably nothing too critical that would ruin the Vox Machina campaign. I got in about 45 episodes or so, but man it's a ton of content to watch and I think I'll never get caught up. I did however watch last night (until about 1 AM EST, I'm not sure how much longer they went after that) and enjoyed it thoroughly.
To everybody who watched the new campaign start: so let's get this discussion started! Who's your favourite? I thought Laura's character was my favorite, and I love the flavor of Travis' so far.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
I really enjoyed Laura's character and her interaction with everyone, and Marisha/Ashley dialogue was a close second favorite. When Ashley "revealed" her class after combat started was just an epic moment. Everyone was just like OMG and it was awesome to see that.
As always, I'm amazed at the amount of detail that Matt can give on anything, and even more so amazed at the quickness of responses to things that are clearly not at all planned, just the banter back and forth and everyone always has a way to react almost on the tip of their tongue. That's clearly a developed skill, I can only wish to be able to do things that fast, instead of thinking of it for a minute then giving a response which is much less fluid. Things like "What's his name" and clearly you could tell Matt not having one ready but only a moment of hesitation then he had one, and the went into even more description to this character that he probably didn't have a big role for at all, but became quite memorable.
Yasha will definitely be one of my favorites, as that class is my favorite. Her mannerisms are totally different from Pike, and I love it. Jester is adorable, so I really loved her. But Nott the Brave. What can I say, Goblins are adorable.
Hey mods, or maybe we even do it ourself, is it possible to maybe break from this point (post 210 onward) into it's own thread? I mean it's the "same stream" but it's a whole new campaign. People (like myself) may want to discuss this without the posts from the previous campaign, as they would likely be spoiler heavy and I haven't gotten caught up with that one yet. And if I'm new to the thread but want to read/catchup/discuss this campaign, finding the starting point isn't exactly easy to do (thinking if this discussion gets 2-3 pages down the road from here).

I’m really glad to see them take a couple of steps outside of their previous classes. I didn’t expect them to repeat what they were before, but I was worried that they’d stick to the same category. I also liked how they really chose to venture outside of the more traditional races for the most part, and even the humans seemed to be less stereotypical.
Well, to be honest, first I thought "sure, Marisha has a character with the highest wisdom, but plays as the dumbest. Makes sense..." but then I remembered what I learned from RPG so far: not our abilities, but more our decisions decide what we do achieve, and how much fun we have in the meantime. So in the end I like how their characters rolled out.
I love Laura's performance for example. I hope she'll be able to manage her greed this time with this new concept. That character development would inspire me a lot.

Just to be clear for new viewers, this campaign is actually in the same world but 20 years later and in a different region.

I think there are some parts of each of us that are so innate that it’s really hard to overcome, and Laura’s moneygrubbing (I’m not so sure I’d qualify it as greedy) is hers. I’m sure she’ll try to overcome it for the sake of her character, but it’s going to be hard, and she may not succeed. A prime example is just how much she was itching with Marisha being the treasurer. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not judging. We all do it. I’m the kind of person that likes to be a little more subtle and focused, but I’m about to start playing a support bard, so I know I’m going to need to fight every instinct and try to have a more boisterous personality, which is going to be hard, and I’m not sure if I’ll succeed.
Exactly. You're right. Moneygrubbing is more fitting word. :)
I personally fight with my always eager behaviour. I have a rogue currently who supposed to be an always shy and timid guy for example. I was struggling with it for ages, when he became mazochist, and that actually helped me to get him in the background. Maybe this handover will be enough for her, maybe she'll find other ways. I put faith in her that she'll figure it out. :)
So I failed an intelligence role. I have been watching the new episode and couldn't figure out why it started in the middle of their announcements but was ok with that when the opening started and then I was introduced to the new characters. At some point I hit pause to get a snack. Came back and only barely noticed there seemed to be a skip ahead a few moments. It took me the second pause which lasted 20 minutes for me to realize I was not actually pausing the re-aired episode. Forgive my lack of intelligent but what gives? Did I simply luck out and click to watch not realizing that I joined a scheduled re-airing just a few minutes in? Anyone know how many minutes did they play before the break?

Yeah, the live broadcast of the episode is only on Thursday night (or possibly Friday, depending upon one's location around the world). Over the weekend, they rebroadcast many of the shows that aired live on the channel during the previous week. It sounds like you caught the episode when it aired as part of the rebroadcast early this morning. The next time the episode should be on the rebroadcast will be tonight around 10:35 p.m. PST. Other than that your options to see the episode at this point would be to either sub to the Twitch channel and gain access to the VOD, sub to Project Alpha and watch the episode there, or wait until tomorrow when they should be putting the episode up on YouTube.
As for how many minutes they played before the break: looks like around 1 hour and 32 minutes. Got that from the Alpha video, and they start pretty close to when Matt appears doing the welcome. I don't know which videos may or may not include the pre-show art gallery, so judge accordingly.
I was a little disappointed they started at level 2 with what seems like quite a bit of backstory already built up, since I was looking forward to watching this party grow from session 0. But it does add to the mystery going forward.
I think all the characters are going to be really interesting to watch grow. I was most pleased with Marisha's (laidback drunk monk seems to be in her wheelhouse, and glad she's staying away from spells), Laura's, and Travis' characters, but I think they all have positives. Not crazy about a goblin rogue or the blood hunter class in general, but looking forward to being proven wrong. I'm also thinking it's a bit silly to see two humans wandering around with a party of monsters/half-monsters, but again, I'm sure they'll work it out into something good. Mercer's change of setting sounds solid too.

They have mentioned in some occasions the last night and stuff like that. I think they had a short game session just to get the party together, and lvl them up quickly to 2nd lvl. As a DM, I'd do the same. The 1st lvl is meant to get in the mood I think, the real fun can start only at lvl 2 with enough HP to beat more interesting encounters. :)

I don't disagree in theory, but the lone combat encounter from this session was pretty tame.
Whatever gets us to level 3 quickly so we can find out the rest of folks' subclass choices!
