I hope I’ve posted this in the correct place. I just wanted to present a new DND play podcast from the UK called “Monday Night Smite” recorded by me and my friends in Leeds, West Yorkshire. We put an episode up once a week, each about 30 minutes long. We are still finding our feet with this medium and the podcast is in its infancy at the moment but I would love for people to give it a listen and let me know what you think. The podcast lives at www.mondaynightsmite.podbean.com and is also on iTunes. We are just currently trying to get the content out there and reach out to people for some genuine feedback. We would be ever so grateful for your opinion and for lending us your ears.

Adventure's I've published on DMs Guild: The Temple of Bhaal - A gothic horror themed "one-shot" single session adventure for 1st level characters. The Palace of Evendur - An ethereal fairy tale "one-shot" single session adventure for 1st level characters.
I am in this very moment listening to the first episode.
The intro music is pretty good, and a nice mood-setter. The recording itself could use some work, imho. If I may, what kind of recording setup do you have? Single mic? What microphone are you using? What software do you use to record? (I do not ask these questions to be a pain in the ass, just to get a better picture of what you already have at the ready :) )
Very good work with the voices, for what I can hear. One thing though, you might want to "slow down" a little bit. At least in this first episode (it might change in future episodes, but this is an "on the moment" comment post ^^) it might be kind of difficult to follow everything going on and grasp the information, especially if the listener is a non-UK native or not accustomed to UK accents and speech-patterns. While it might be a bit odd to ask this of the players (even though they might take it into consideration) I think the DM narrations could use a bit of a slower pace.
While I wait to see your replies to the above questions on the setup, I would already suggest trying to soundproof the ambient you play/record in. Doesn't necessarily need to be a soundproofing of the whole room, already buying/building some sound-breaking panels could help get rid of most of the echo and "weird" background noises, and help make the voices more clear. To build even a temporary version of this, you could buy some compressed panels, and attach to them some of those "cardboard" egg-cases, given the shape of the thing they are of great help in breaking the sound and avoid unnecessary refraction in the ambient.
Hi there Lek, more than happy to answer your questions and thank you for such thorough feedback. The later episodes have slowed down a little bit actually. We are recording almost six weeks ahead so the later ones have changed quite a bit. Mainly we have stopped playing music in the background and started recording without any ambience to get slightly better audio. I’ve started sticking some royalty free music and a few sound effects on after editing. As far as recording equipment goes it’s pretty crude methodology at the moment, I’m using my iPhone and placing it on the table at my friends house where we play. We are not in a studio, it’s just a living room so sound proofing wouldn’t be an option at the moment but it’s certainly worth thinking about or maybe ways in which we could set up something quick and temporary. As far as software goes I do the editing in audacity, and again with the audio situation the editing is getting better week to week.
i really appreciate that you took the time to listen and I hope we might have you check out some more episodes as the show progresses.

I do not strictly do podcasts myself, but I have experience in livestreaming and video recording.
Glad to hear you guys already "slowed down" :) personally I think the background music was not a problem, but if you feel more comfortable (and have the time) to add it in post-recording, all the better.
For being recorded on a smartphone the quality is actually pretty good (damn you Apple ;p) but if I can suggest a little improvement, I'd like to point you to an option:
Newer NW-700 mic kit this thing seems like a scam looking st the pricetag, I know, but I assure you it's an incredible piece of recording hardware for the price, one that I have used extensively for over a year to create videos and to livestream. The fact that it comes with everything you need, including a power supply (usually a separate, but very much needed, item) makes it only better. If you guys can set up a laptop with Audacity and this thing plugged in the mic entry your audio will get way better already. Another option, and an additional improvement already would be to buy two of these, keep one for you and the other at the center of the table (hanging from the top would be better) for the players.
For the soundproofing, if you guys are in for a bit of DIY you can find sound proofing foam on Amazon UK, buy some, attach it to some compressed boards, attach these to some hinges and you have a collapsible sound shield.
It's an investment, but one that could be beneficial, I think.
Thanks for the advice man I really appreciate it! I'll have a good look at the recommendation as I'm thinking about ways to get better audio already. Do you have any live streams youd like me to have a look at one return for checking us out? Always up for looking at some new stuff online

I have recently picked videogame livestreaming back up, trying out caffeine as a platform but I do not really have a schedule to be honest (currently playing Nioh) and the platform does not save streams (for the time being, it's in pre-release).
If you'd like to check out something I did in the past with recorded videos (always videogames), you can have a look at my YouTube page

Thank you tom, appreciate the compliments ^^ The very first videos were recorded with a headset with mic, not the best but ok. Then I bought the NW-700 (the one I linked to you earlier, but mine didn't come with the power supply, so I had to buy one separately XD) and the quality noticeably increased. Last summer I had decided I wanted to improve it even further (to be honest I am also considering starting a D&D podcast, maybe in Italian [no conflict with you guys :P], but didn't find the time/right people to do start it just yet) so I bought an Audio-Technica AT2020 (an excellent mic, you can see the quality in the last 6/8 months videos, but a bit higher in price and doesn't come with any "optional").
I know the feeling of not having time to play, that is part of the reason why now it's a few months I did not really do much with the channel, aside from the random YouTube livestream. If you like, I have a full playthrough of Doom up there :P
