Hello! My name is Paul, and I am the DM, host, and producer of a recently launched (Jan 2018) D&D podcast called Make-Believe Heroes. With four of my friends, we are playing D&D in a homebrew world of my making with new episodes going out every Monday. We have put a ton of effort into making this show as good as we possibly can, and we would LOVE for the DnDBeyond community (and anyone else, really) to listen in, and let us know what you think.
Our “mission statement” is all about having fun, delivering top-notch audio with effects and music to make you feel like you’re really there, and delivering the best story and RP that we possibly can.
We just released episode 16 of our first season. As the season has progressed, we feel that we have grown as players AND podcasters. If you’re looking for some more D&D in your life, give us a listen! We think you’ll enjoy it.
So I'm halfway through the first episode (I only listen to podcasts in the car). I know you guys are 16 (I think) episodes in, so some of this stuff may be changed/addressed, but my initial thoughts is instantly I could hear the southern twang in some pronunciations in your words (I imagined Kentucky in my mind, then your location on your account confirmed that, so I patted myself on the back for it lol). The twang IS NOT A BAD THING, I want to make that clear, as I live in Alabama, so I'm sure I have a southern accent too lol what I want to throw out there is that while you roleplay different characters I would try to control the accent/pronunciations so that not EVERY npc has the same accent UNLESS that is explained in the geography of the land and whatnot. I hope that made sense.
My second thing is the volume seems a bit low, and the microphones for the two brothers (Jeffrey & Jeremy) seems lower than the DM's mic. I had to put my phone's volume all the way to the max and turn my car up to 25 just to have the volume on par with other podcasts that I listen to.Normally podcasts I listen to are -3 from max on my phone and car at 18.
Because I just started listening (and haven't even finished the first episode lol), I don't want to comment on the podcast content just yet.
I will continue to listen and provide more thoughts, that's just something that stuck out to me immediately! Hope this helps in some way.
Thanks for the feedback. As far as the accents go, I’m afraid they won’t be going anywhere. It’s more prominent in some players than others, but it is what it is. As for the audio loudness, we tinkered with it quite a bit trying to fix the quietness. We eventually discovered that something was automatically adjusting their volumes, and we’ve since rectified it. Thanks again!
