Recommend this Youtube stream to fans of D&D. Great roleplay, great Cosplay. I'm only one episode in, but it certainly seemed worthy of its own discussion thread here. Also was featured as one of the games on Stream of Annihilation.
The SoA game was DM'd by Matt Mercer which made it doubly entertaining. They're still fairly new to DnD so they've cut out all of the rules-checking and such from the youtube videos so it may look scripted, but it's still an entertaining watch. They've said after their season 2 videos are out they're interested in streaming, so keep an eye out for them on Twitch!
I don't know, I mean...I don't think they're very good at the game. I mean, cool, girls playing D&D but I think that's the schtick they have going for them. They don't really know the rules or how to play their characters, and if you like loose games like that, then they're for you. I need more from people I watch while I watch streamers. I only have seen them on the Streams of Annihilation, though, so maybe they are better on their channel and not being next to the (dreamy, or so Miss Gmoat says) Matt Mercer.

"...Debts must always be paid, sometimes in more than blood and gold. But this is Ordo Ursa," Ren places his hand on Erakas's chest, right where the Dragonborn's heart is. "Right here. And it always has been and always will be. Don't ever forget that. Because I won't."

I agree, it's just a "hey look! It's hot girls! Let's watch (regardless of what they're doing, so long as it's something nerdy...)" kinda schtick. Otherwise, weren't very interesting role playing IMHO.
Sorry, just sayin'..

Right...
But where is the line drawn? When does it become sexist to say know the rules and quit batting your eyelashes? Is that even fair for me to say? Obviously, they have their own gaming style that people seem to like, so am I judging too harshly?

Honestly, they are not a bad group. Sure they play a bit fast and loose with the rules and maybe flavor things in a weird ways that leaves me, as a long-time player, trying to sort out what spell they are casting or what other action is actually being performed, but they (as a group) have only been playing for about six months now. I log about the same number of mistakes that occur during an Acquisitions Inc. C-Team stream, and at least a few of those players have been playing for years.
What is important is that they make D&D seem fun for a different demographic that wouldn't normally get exposed to the game. In their SoA interview, they mentioned that they had already gotten lots of positive feedback from parents whose young girls were more interested in D&D because these ladies made it fun for them to watch. Broad and diverse exposure is a good thing for the game. My wife loves them even as I sometimes roll my eyes at some of the more ridiculous rules violations that occur and I wouldn't have it any other way. The GGG crew is a great way to introduce people to the hobby.
I really enjoyed it. You don't need to follow all the rules in D&D for it to be fun. and During SOA They confirmed they edit the videos down. I showed my wife their game and she loves it and wants me to add the Ring of Drunkenness into our game
I honestly can't get into it. The entire thing seems sooo gimmicky that it turned me off to the point I haven't even bothered watching an episode.
That's fine personal preference and all that, I can't get into Critical Roll myself. I tried but I can't even through a full episode
I love Critical Role, but am currently watching Force Grey and hate it with a passion because of all the editing and losing track of what is going on because of the edits and the jumps in time to something that seems different, and its just an awful experience for something that should have been good.
Which brings me to my point, where there are probably things (like the costumes) that throw me off from giving Girls, Guts, Glory a chance to even begin with.
Oh GGG is definitely not for everyone. But then again neither is Crit Roll, Force Grey, Dice Camera Action, or Acquisitions Inc. going to hit all the right demographics. What is nice however is that they all exist, so that each of them can find and fill a niche that helps get more and more people interested in the game as a whole.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Personally i don't know where to put GGG. Is it trying to be a comedy? For me it lacks depth and roleplay. Its just too much silly, gimmicky overacting without imho showing a real passion for the game.
Well they do say they don't really follow all the rules only what two of them every played D&D before. It's meant to just be a fun very much focusing on fairy tale game.
1. Usually better to experience something before saying it's bad- except for broccoli. I mean, I just KNOW that stuff is bad. No need to even try it.
2. Usually better to recommend things you enjoy to other people, rather than tell them what they like is bad. Except on first dates. Then it's definitely better to tell your date what they like is stupid. Works every time.

I still say that, the greatest "live play D&D" that I'd like to watch, is if my group of guys could get more time off to play ourselves more often!
