I've been catching up with all of the old episodes after I watched Clash at Daxio - Thordak and couldn't get enough. I haven't watched any more recent episodes as I wanted the full backstory to enjoy it all. It's impossible to narrow down any one best part, but anything with Grog and Scanlan is always going to be a blast. Also, when Keyleth spoke to the Sun Tree the 2nd time!
Scanlan - "I bet on Grog, don't you remember~?" *weird hand gesture*
Vax - "No you did not!" *mocks hand gesture*

I had a Similar thing happen in mt, but I created the character before I watched the show. Oceni's Traveling Ornaments and Trivialities (OTOT) which is a traveling magic item shoppe + Massive Airship run by a Giant-sized Aarakocra Sorceror. The problem is I love Gilmore's voice so much and (because the shop travels around) the party rarely runs into him. And the two times that the party ran into him since then I keep slipping into Gilmore's voice without thinking.
Just goes to show how endearing Gilmore is I guess :)

PbP character Son Kol - Kel Dor Fringer (Shadows of the Republic)
What makes Critical Role so great? I would refer you to Patrick Rothfuss' 'The Name of the Wind,' wherin Kvothe talks about his early life w/ the performing Edema Ruh troupe: "...nothing is so grand as a troupe showing off for one another..."
Totally agree! Name of the Wind is a great book, especially if you like in depth world building similar to what Mercer has done with his own world.
And Patrick Rothfuss makes an appearance in the stream at some point in the future if you're behind... no spoilers though ;D
Patrick's character is great. He's a top role player. Really allows some great character building moments for several members.
According to this week's Talks Machina, he's also in line to be in a theoretical wedding party.
I think that the Critters will help Beyond a lot and we Critters should not shame upon those who play d&d but do not watch Cr, but we should try to introduce them to it and if they don't like it, well we still like d&d

Roll the dice and play the game, I’m not here to listen to your politics.
“But this isn’t right. You’re meant to charge in, sword drawn, banner flying-that’s what all the other knights did!” “Yeah, right before they burst into flame.”
Matt does frequently refer to an app on his phone for looking up spell descriptions. I can't quite remember when, but there was actually one episode where the spell description on his app was incorrect, so he may consider using this for looking up spell descriptions. She doesn't do it any more, but in the old days, Keyleth had quite a knack for casting spells without reading them properly.
While I haven't sat down with my Pathfinder book in hand to varify this, a lot of the early issues can probably be attributed to the fact they started in Pathfinder and transitioned over to 5th. So while some of it might have been not reading the spell right, some of it might have simply been something that worked before in Pathfidner and now doesn't in 5th.
Let me preface this by saying, this show has easily become one of my all-time favorite things. That being said, let's get into it:
I've noticed that some of them seem surprised when others do some spells, even though the spell has been done before. Also, just a general forgetfulness of what their own characters can do. I'm a rational thinking person, so I just mark it up to the fact that they are always working on other things besides just this DnD sesh, they've come from Pathfinder with some different rules, lack of reading their own spells, and then the human element. There's been times I've forgotten abilities and/or items I could use, so who am I to judge when it happens to someone else. (Except it can be a little annoying when the same person forgets how their characters combat works [looking at you, Liam] multiple times during the same show).
Also, I don't know how much of it is homebrew, because I don't have a masterful understanding of PF or~ 5e. So, if the argument lies in there, I just assumed it was homebrew and people can do whatever they want with house rules, lol. My biggest issue is when a person argues with the DM for longer than necessary. Sure, challenge the DM if something doesn't seem right, but ultimately it's up to them. Plus, as Matt has said before, they're on a schedule, so long arguments take away from the game.
Just my $0.02. Let's discuss.

We all know they don't know all mechanics of 5e (all but Matthew), maybe because the jump from PF to 5e and Matthew's homebrew. But we love and watch CR because their stories and the good feeling they have. So.. we can say they have low INT and max CHA as players
I want to watch Critical Role but there's like a century's worth of content here lol how do I start? XD
The best option: Start from the very first episode and take ir easy and enjoy it. You must watch at least 2 episodes per week if you want reach the Live episodes.
A quick option: watch all the first arch of episodes (to meet the characters) and then jump to the previous arch. This way you will know the characters and the most recently events. But often they does references to old events that you will miss by this way. I only recommended this option if you haven't enough time per week
I would start Here, it is the summary of the game before the stream. Start with episode 14. This is just after the first Arc. A lot of summary occurs and you get the gist of what happened. The next real arc does not start for several episodes. This inter-arc group of episodes is really fun and you will get to know the characters. Yeah, you still have a lot of catch up but it will be enjoyable. This is my suggestion.

I'd say start at the beginning and watch an episode in your free time. As long as you average over 1 a week you will eventually catch up. I just started recently too.

I feel like the entire group doesn't recall polymorph changes your mental abilities as well as physical. (Keyleth is excluded)
While it may have been house ruled, it appears checks to maintain concentration are largely ignored.

Hi from Europe Critters! I'm a few episodes behind but slowly catching up
I just watched the episode where Scanlan left and I was not prepared for anything like that
Happy Thursday Critters! I'm jealous of all of you who can watch live. Getting up at 3am is a bit too much for someone who regularly gets up at 6am.
Hasn't stopped me in the past though oops*excited drum roll*
