Just in case anyone was looking for some good tips on how to DM for D&D, I would like to point you in the direction of my favourite channel on the youtubes!
Every DM should occasionally listen Matthew Colville. He has great content.

He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.
We're doing our own book on Kickstarter! It's going to be amazing--300 pages, art, and so much high quality content you'll be drownin' in it... Click here to check it out and sign-up!
I swear that if Matt Colville did not exist, I might have never tried my hand at DMing. It is an intimidating endeavour for a newb and I appreciate (as an ongoing process) the pep talk and down to earth recommendations his videos offer. Plus, he's managing to explain the game in a way that makes sense to me. Maybe it's because we're in related 'métiers', I don't know, but I warmly recommend him to anyone.
I'm so glad I stumbled across his videos a few weeks back. He is really quite inspirational in terms of encouraging viewers to jump into DMing. Having done it way back in my teenage years and just getting back into the game, it's daunting to consider, "Can I do this right?" and his tone is so positive. I love his appreciation for the history of the game too!
He's a great "thinker" on the game, and shows how every table is different - this should inspire any budding DM to give it a go, with confidence that fun will follow for all!
I have been playingsince 3.5 on through now and had always been a player. I tried dming twice but it never stuck. Recently Itried DMing and his videos have made me much more efficient and eager to keep the adventure going. Highly recommend Matt's videos.
It is always great to gain new insights into being a DM.
Agreed. I've been DM'ing over 30 years, consider myself something of a master, and, if there's one thing I've learned, it's that mastery requires constant refinement and continuous polish.
To the OP, thanks for this. I like how he breaks it all down and simplifies things. I can get lost in the weeds sometimes and it's nice to be reminded that it is, after all, a game.

PBP "Beregost Blues" - Dungeon Master of Gnome Slaying +5
Hello all!
Just in case anyone was looking for some good tips on how to DM for D&D, I would like to point you in the direction of my favourite channel on the youtubes!
Matthew Colville is a published author, game writer and dungeon master. He has amazing ideas and tips on his youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkVdb9Yr8fc05_VbAVfskCA
It's brilliant for new DMs right through to Matthew Mercer tier. I 100% recommend checking it out.
Edit: Corrected link
If you love a character, you give them pain, ruin their lives, make them suffer. Maybe even throw in a heroic death.

Matt's stuff is great. One of the biggest influences on my own DMing style.
DM: The Cult of the Crystal Spider (Currently playing Storm King's Thunder)
Player: The Knuckles of Arth - Lemire (Tiefling Rogue 5/Fighter 1)
I agree... I've loved his content.

Agree, Matt gives a lot of great info and view points on DMing and playing D&D (and he does it all so quick!)
PS, that youtube link seemed to go wonky for me, Matt's Channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkVdb9Yr8fc05_VbAVfskCA

Wary the wizard who focuses on homebrew, for he can create nightmares that you wouldn't even dream of
Ah, my link does seem to be wrong. Thanks for that.

Agreed, Matt has valuable ideas and isn't under any disillusionment about being a DM. Great to get ideas from.
I have been meaning to watch some of his videos, just haven't found the time. Hopefully I can spend the weekend binging on it.
I would cite the two guys of WebDM as well.

ADORE Matthew Colville. Honestly his advice is more helpful to me than the DM Tips from Matt Mercer

He rules. I'm loving his videos. Is he on the forums??
Not that I know of, but he's very active on reddit and Twitter!
