The Sunsword and Sun Blade are two different items. The Sunsword is a legendary item from Curse of Strahd and it's no longer allowed (starting season 8). The Sun Blade is still allowed and can be found only in the module CCC-STORM-01 (Dawnfire).

Can I replace a players Dawnbringer which will be illegal with new AL season with a regular sun blade? And no, not the Sunsword from CoS. So the player still has the effects w/o the sentient part.
You get 12 treasure points for Dawnbringer, but they have to be spent according to the rules. That means all your purchases have to be from the lists of purchasable items. Sun blade isn't on the list. There is no word on whether items you have seen prior to season 8 starting count as unlocked purchasable items for characters.
As the title says, I have looked everywhere for a list of AL legals items but I can't seem to find them.

With the update to version 8.1 of the rules, Dawnbringer can be exchanged for Sun blade or 24 treasure checkpoints.
