When DDB launched, Season 8 had not been announced but it was on the horizon. During a Developer Update, BadEye confirmed that this was an easy thing for them to add, however since they knew changes were coming to AL, they didn't want to add a new system that would be defunct and need to be replaced in a few months.
Once Season 8 came, it seems as though AL integration fell a bit as a priority. I speculate this is due to the intense negative reception that S8 has received so far. He has said in recent updates that this is something they expect to have ready for Season 9, so I also speculate that there will be more major rules changes since people aren't very happy.
I would just like to chime in here that I agree that this WotC provided/sanctioned tool (DnDBeyond) should absolutely have a checkbox at the starter page for Character Creation that allows one to check "Adventurer's League Legal". Period. This seems like a very fundamental aspect of what this tool should provide. With that box checked, as soon as character options are selected that tie the character to their "PHB +1", then they need to stop being offered character options outside of those references. This should be simple to do, I would think.
I myself just now logged on to create an AL character, and was dumbfounded that there is not a checkbox for this.
As someone who has been using herolab for PFS i must say even being able to choose specific books/rulesets would be nice..also if they list the source material. Hero lab does ALL of this and lets you choose whether you will be doing a PFS character or not thus disabling non PFS options. It even changes how leveling works to be compatible with it. And i really do wish dnd beyond had this function. As an example i am in a homebrew game and the DM requested we only use skills from the players handbook and basic rules. So i ahd to cross reference my spells with the players handbook spell lists. an option to choose what source books we want and/or be set for adventure league would be great and the fact a clear third party application can do it all yet an official one cannot is just kinda odd imo.
I'll take a quick moment to pile on with the "make an AL button" to be able to setup your PHB+1 choices. With backgrounds, spells, feats, and subclasses in the mix, you really have to pay attention when making a character to follow the AL rules.
And holy cow, I would pay money if DnD&Beyond would take the season rules and treasure charts, etc. out of the freaking forest of 1980s .PDF files and make a single coherent section that lays out the current rules in web format. Tracking character advancement and logging adventures, etc. would also be great. AdventurersLeagueLog.com is great and all, but I've already made and update my characters here, why not allow me to track adventures and spend loot, etc. here. Like I said, I would pay for that, and I'm sure many other AL players would too.

I was just searching to see is DNDbeyond could do this "make an AL button" to be able to setup your PHB+1 choices". I am new to all things DND, this would be an awesome feature.
I'm not sure if it is easier to implement because it needs to tell you exactly what's wrong. Otherwise it will lead to even more frustration.
Imagine, if you select spells from all sources without being aware of it. Then it flags your char as NOT-legal. It must tell you exactly what you did wrong, which spells are from what source, otherwise you will have to look up everything and check your whole character and all spells just like now and try fixing until it somehow to be legal again.
I as programmer myself, think it could not be such a big problem to have a selection of your PHB +1 source and denn filter all races, sub-classes, feats and spells. This is super easy, except if your database or data is a mess, but I don't think so.
AL should attract new players, but the official tools at dndbeyond do not support it and there is no official statement on it. I want to let a new player create a dndbeyond account, share my campaign and let the player make his selections more or less alone, so that he has a hero after 15 mins. This should be number 1 prio @dndbeyond... I simply do not understand what the problem could be.
I'm new to DDB, and have been buggin trying to figure out how you record your XP. I'm really kinda surprised that such a core component of the game is missing from this site, but that website you posted is awesome, and super simple. DDB should just buy that simple design from the person that created it, and add it to the next release of DDB. Thanks for posting this link!

standard Xp is included. Click on your character's face in the upper left hand corner of your sheet. and you'll get a drop down menu. From there you can click on "manage experience".
unfortunately the new Al "checkpoints" system is not.

An easier to implement option might be to have an "AL legal" indicator, which just checks what you have selected.

Exactly right.
DND Beyond already has filters for sources. They just need a way to aggregate those filters into a "AL" legal method.
Even if it were manual, like "Choose 1 extra resource" and it would just show you PHB+1 that would work.
I would love for DND Beyond to get AL support. In the meantime, thanks for the adventurersleaguelog.com link! I’ll use that meanwhile.

I wasn't aware of this official Trello board roadmap, but here it is https://trello.com/b/vIKxuEs8/dd-beyond-feature-roadmap
Looks like AL validation is set and planned!
This is certainly great for people to understand that some of their beefs either are, or are not, in the pipeline. Didn't know this existed. Thanks.
Here is a link to their feedback support page where you can upvote (or downvote, I guess) the desire for this feature....

You do have to create a separate support account as it didn't accept my twitch.
