I am running my family through Tales of the Yawning Portal and while preparing for this weekends game I noticed that they have to travel ~350-500 miles overland (Depended on where you place Oakhurst) and found using the vanilla rules for travel in the PHB that it would take about 21 days to travel there by foot or if a cab is hired 15gp per person and still take as long. I have placed Oakhurst about 5 miles west by north-west of Morger's Mound in the vicinity of Neverwinter.
So my first question is am I understanding the vinalla rules for overland travel correctly.
My second and more important question what is the rulings/rule of thumb for long travel distances when they happen in session and not between sessions(i.e. traveling to complete an objective as apposed to being in Chult one session then taking your character to a different table that happens to be doing an adventure in Parnast.)
