I have a couple of players wanting to use Mastiffs as mounts and I am a little unsure how to handle it if I can and it it still be legal in AL. I know that in the flavor text for the mastiff in the MM it says that Halflings and small creatures use them as mounts and the picture in the book is one set up as a mount, but wouldn't a War Mastiff trained as a mount have increased stats, price, and carry weight like the War Horse with its vanilla Horse counterpart? Is there a book I am missing that would help me adjudicate this matter?
To make it AL legal, you simply use the mastiff as is. There's no official "war mount" template or a "war mastiff", so there's no way to integrate that idea.
They simply need to purchase a mastiff (25gp) and a saddle (5, 10 or 20 gp) and they're set. Please note that at later levels the mastiff mount does not "grow" with the player, so they're bound to die really quickly...
I was kinda hoping that in one of the many resources that there was an official stat block somewhere, but on the other hand I wasn't sure if the idea of a Mastiff mount was technically AL legal since it is barely even mentioned in the MM stat block which I just looked and it isn't listed as any kind of player resource, but with the meat of the stat block being int he PHB might get it to count. Pretty much whatever I tell my players I wan't it to be to the best of my knowledge true overall, as in if I say yes and they take there character to another table will they be told that they have to remove the mount from their sheets if they want to play.
I didn't know about the find steed spell. Thanks Deirakos for the information, and thank the rest of you as well I should have some happy players come this weekend.

the find steed spell also mentions it as an official mount option
edit: so it should be AL legal to use the linked mastiff as mount
It's perfectly legal to have as a mount, it's in the player handbook so it doesn't even count as a +1 source :)
