There's not a lot of AL available near me, so I thought I could jump in and try it out at Pax Unplugged. The more I look into it, the more it seems like it has becomes wildly unpopular and overcomplicated (although maybe that's just for characters already existing?). Is this a good use of 4 hours at a con, plus the character creation time, given that I probably can't play regularly? Wait until Season 9?
IF you don't play AL regularly then it means you will start 1st level. So with that in mind, consider it like going to a convention with a 1st level pregen. Do you care what you get or are you there for the fun of the adventure. If just for the fun, who cares if you get gold or treasure points. Even more so if you never play the character again
Personally I think Convention play should all be pregens and then you can transfer any rewards to your AL character. This keeps conventions all is even based, no power players. But allows anyone who goes to take something home.
