I would love to see a system where you show up to a store, the DM for a table can look you up on Beyond, add you to his/her table, and pull up your sheets for reference (a digital way of having players fill out index cards for quick reference like AC, Class, Name, Race, Passive Perception, etc) and then at the end of the session, at the click of a button you receive your XP, Gold, Story rewards, downtime, renown and maybe a system to receive magic items. This would streamline a lot of the AL stuff, and make organized play, well... a lot more organized! Looking forward to the day when this type of thing is enabled by such a system as Beyond.
Not a terrible idea, but impractical in some situations - convention play being the biggest that springs. Many gaming conventions take place in hotels that do not have the network bandwidth to support the number of devices that come with a gaming crowd, or due to construction result in poor cell signal. It's a neat idea, but I wouldn't want to spend a whole weekend fighting with it.
I'd certainly like such a system. Especially if it had an icon or single-press 'Is this character AL-legal?' button, would save me time doing DM/store organizer duty.

That's pretty much the reason why I hope this thing has a very good offline feature. Since the local gaming convention has started offering Epics, AL has been moved to the hotel's basement to accommodate the numbers. Not great for mobile service.
One feature that would be handy is to have a differentiation between people listed as GM's and Stores own accounts. A store could seed too it's GM's the materials whilst GM's host tables and pull players in like mentioned above. I think it would also help GM's get the rewards they are due whilst wizards have a store program in a similar fashion to other Wizards products.

I concur. This should be part of the Campaign Management features.
That being said, you'd still have to get all your players on board with D&D Beyond in order to make it useful.
And network bandwidth is also a concern but less so, I think, than it once was.

An Adventurers League module for D&D Beyond would be very cool. At the very least, it would be nice if AL log sheet tracking system could be an option for the Character Builder module.
I personally LOVE this idea. However, I think it should be optional. My shop, for example, is mainly high school aged kids that can't/won't use it properly if at all. Although if it was available but not required I think it would be extremely helpful. Either way I would use it.
I think this should be technically doable if the character data is kept just to text and any graphics are not permitted and even if there is concerns about a slow hotel network, the data could be transmitted via Bluetooth to the DMs device and he or she could transmit any change to the data when a viable network becomes available.

Roll the dice and play the game, I’m not here to listen to your politics.
“But this isn’t right. You’re meant to charge in, sword drawn, banner flying-that’s what all the other knights did!” “Yeah, right before they burst into flame.”

Um... Peer-to-peer bluetooth networking with untrusted devices from people you don't really know? No, thank you.
In fact... "dear god no". That feature even existingin the app would be a reason not to use it.
Not bad ideas at all but call me old school I'd prefer pen and paper plus using the character table tents provided by AL, I have all the player info I need there right in front of me and the players are able to see the order of initiative. Now something i know my home store is doing is that they are going to have a store tablet available for use by DMs with access to as much of the different books, modules, etc. as they can possibly get.
Um we are talking one way d&d data here for a game not your bank account information or anything sensitive. LOL If you have any classified data on your phone or tablet you shouldn't be using it for a game in the first place.

I don't trust WoTC or Curse to properly secure a peer-to-peer connection of any kind. The existence of the connection opens up the possibility of exploits, as does needing Bluetooth active to begin with. Very much no, thank you.

Right now the only restriction on AL vs open/free/non-formated play is the PHB+1 Rule and the ban on unapproved content like homebrew and playtest material, right? If that is the case it should be fairly easy to make an AL legal character just no way to get a "seal of approval" just trying to make sure I understand what is being discussed here.

There's also some limitations on classes/races, starting gold/equipment, backgrounds, etc. They tend to add up across seasons, the AL FAQ guide is getting pretty hefty.

Definitely better than WER and more usable for AL!

I agree wholeheartedly, full AL support is my biggest expectation for phase 3.
It would be way better option than the choice between being dependant from WER or going fully honor system.

AL Integration would include the automatic source restrictions, adventure logs, etc. Currently I keep my logs on http://www.adventurersleaguelog.com
