Okay, so I just finished my first Tier 1 AL adventure, and as our reward at the end of the module every participant was given a Broom of Flying. Not that I'm complaining, but that seems like a really good reward for a 1st level character. Although now that I'm looking it up it's still considered an Uncommon item...
Mostly I'm just curious if rewards are usually this good, or if I just got lucky that the module our group joined in on lucked in on one of those Uncommon items that's honestly better than a lot of rare or Very Rare magic items could be. lol it also totally borks my character backstory, since the intent was to be a Kenku Warlock who is working with a Patron to gain the power of flight, and that's kind of taken care of now...
Sorry to correct you but under season 8 rules all you have done is UNLOCK the ability to later purchase a broom of flying once you have sufficient treasure points. A 4 hour tier 1 adventure will award the character 4 adventure check points and 4 treasure check points. Once you have 16 treasure check points you can choose to purchase the broom of flying or any of the other magic items you may have unlocked.
The AL admins are discussing actually allowing each character to receive the item at the end of an adventure for season 9. However, season 9 doesn't start until September 17th and the rules for this upcoming season haven't yet been finalized so your DM can't be giving out the magic item reward for the adventure to every player at the table ... at least not yet ... and that assumes that the draft magic item rules are actually adopted.
P.S. The items that can be found in adventures vary a lot. Broom of flying is probably one of the more useful utility items. However, there are adventures with more niche items as well as ones that will appeal more to one class than others. The adventures your character plays contribute to how your character develops and the items you can earn from those adventures tend to make characters with different played adventures a bit more unique.
Ooh, thanks a lot :) The way our DM described it made it seem like we all simply received the item. I'm weirdly happier with this information... if I'm going to get something like this that fits so thematically into my character's backstory I'd like to feel like I earned it with a bit more than just surviving a 4 hour campaign being carried by the all the level 3 and 4 characters.

It's pretty hit or miss depending on the adventure you play. Some rewards are much better than others.
