First off shout outs to local gaming stores for giving me (and many others) a platform for hosting great events!
Now what I want to talk about here is the different Leagues around Scotland and start a central point with Beyond for grouping people together around the wee nation!
I am Iain "Happenstance" Christie and I'm running games out of Glasgow's West End Games. I'm a fairly recent GM there, and the already standing guys have done a good job of literally running the nights that they can to maximum capacity each and every week.
What I'm looking for is to hear from other users in the country and once we're all talking maybe let it lead to meeting up with a thing or even just letting the community show some love and bond together!
So who's getting in on Beyond at the ground level from Scotland? Where is your shop or play group based? Let's band together!
Shops mentioned in thread to visit:
Glasgow's West End Games. Kirkaldy's MinMax. Dundee's Highlander Games.
Hi Iain, I'm Oli based in Fife. I play in Kirkcaldy and Anstruther with a couple of groups. MinMax in Kirkcaldy has 3 groups with lots of DMs. There are gamers who meet at the Dreel Hall in Anstruther and a few go to ENT ( East Neuk Tabletop Games Club).
I'm near Glasgow but have yet to stop by any of the local game stores. I've only played D&D on roll20, didn't think there was much of a 5e scene in Scotland, glad to be informed otherwise!
I would have thought that Glasgow would have lots of groups to play D&D and other RPGs. Usually the local gaming stores are good contact points. It's highly likely they offer magic the gathering and other CCG nights, they most probably offer Adventurers League. Glasgow has some good game shops, (Static Games/A1 Comics) if my memory serves me right. Plus with the rise of Boardgames, there may be a Boardgame cafe or club and the odds are that there will be folk there who roleplay.
Hello Dundee based DM here. I started the Adventure League group at Highlander Games about 4/5 months ago. We have a steadily increasing player base and, thankfully, a number of players who have gone on to DM.
I wanted to start up the Adventure League at the shop because I was bitten by the DMing bug last summer, and thought why wait for someone else to set it up, it may never happen.
I'm also going to be DMing a slot at the upcoming International Tabletop Gaming Day at DWARF in Dunfermline next month.
Anything going down in Edinburgh? My Dad lives there and occasionally I get the opportunity to visit. Would be nice to gate crash with an AL character sometime.
I'm in Cambuslang, Scotland, old AD&D player now back with the bug. Wasn't aware there were even games nearby! Looking for an AL campaign on a Saturday (Work nights Mon-Fri, bleagh).
If anything like that comes your way guys, let me know ;)
Hey all! I'm a gamer and fledgling DM from the far far far far FAAAAAR north of Scotland - a wee town called Thurso (near John O'Groats) and if you get the train it is literally the end of the line. And we can see Orkney from the beach. (",)
Geography out of the way, we have stores like everyone else up and down the nation but none we can play in, alas. We have a "gaming club" ("Northern Knights", if you want to look it up on the twitterbook) for playing Warhammer, D&D, etc. but my group just meet up in the house on a Friday night for some drinky-poos and madcap fun - quite the lunatic asylum.
The chances of us ever meeting in person is slim but if you ever want to hook up and play online that'd be great! We could even try and sort out a West Marches game for the Scots, what do we think?
Next year 1-2/09/18 Perth will see the first appearance of the Tabletop Scotland convention.
A convention to celebrate and play Tabletop games in all their forms.
I have taken on the challenge of organising the Adventure League tables and I am looking for volunteer DMs to run a table or two on either the Saturday or Sunday or both!
If you would like to take up the mantle of an Adventure League DM at all or would like to know more message me, comment below or if you are in Dundee pop along to Highlander Games on a Thursday night.
Hi Matthew! I'm in Dundee, and would more than definitely be up for joining something different, what are your thoughts? Would be cool to get a taster of what potential players would be getting into?
Also in terms of a venue, I've found local pubs to be fine on the quieter nights.
In case you don't already know, we're hosting lots and lots of Adventurers League games over the weekend of the 1st & 2nd of September in Perth including Premier adventures and an EPIC on the Saturday night.
In addition to all the lovely D&D AL fun we also have more than 20 exhibitors, lots of open play for gaming, board game tournaments including UK Nationals Qualifiers for Catan and Pandemic:Survival and lots of other RPGs in the schedule too.
Tickets are on sale now and event bookings open on the 30th May at 20:00. So if you want to secure your space in the EPIC or any other games you should check us out.
Hey all, new-ish player (I say that cos I've played a load of my friends version of D&D and he doesn't use many of the rules and has his own character sheets we use so 'his version'), but i'm Kirkcaldy based and interested in seeing if anyone is looking for players?

West End Games is under 5 mins walk from both a subway station and a train station so it's very easily accessible!
Perth has a lovely wee comic shop called 'Big Dog Books', which sells some boardgames and rpgs. it also does an Adventurers League Night.
Hi Greg, hope to make it to Dwarf next month.
I'll see you there, I'll be the one with the run away sheep!

Hey Sarah. Might be worth you getting in touch with the folks at Kirkcaldy Meeple Club.
They are primarily a board game club but I know some of the members there are also roleplayers.

I'd also recommend the group in Dundee that @GregFoster is involved in - https://www.facebook.com/groups/ALHighlanderGames/
Plus of course if you came to Tabletop Scotland you'd be able to meet lots of D&D players and play lots of D&D too.
Cheers,
Dave
