I'm running an adventure for a couple of level 8 players, the setting is a isolated city/country where magic is banned and the king is secretly a Efreeti who bans everyone from leaving the city. The city itself is split into two with one half underground and another above ground (similar to Arcane). The party has come to end drug dealers, slave trades, and have completed missions for the rebel organization White Dagger. One of my players has found a tome of vampirism because he told me he wants to become a vampiric demigod of sorts. Problem is that I have no idea what to do next, I need a adventure or some inspiration to continue the plot. Help is appreciated.
If magic is banned, so would the tome of vampirism. The king might send people after it. Other criminals might want the tome, so there could be a bunch of sides all trying to steal the book from the players, and they are trying to keep it.
Maybe the tome used to belong to a vampire, and he wants to keep his secrets hidden, so he comes after the party.
I probably should have elaborated on the tome. The tome belonged to a coven if vampiric hags who ran the market in the city (who's house they promptly raided and murdered). I do think that others may try and take the tome but the problem is how would they know that the players have it.

Maybe the hags had a faithful minion who was out the day the party attacked. When they returned home, their masters had been slaughtered. Through magical means, (or reasoning) they discovered who killed them and what they stole. So now that servant wants revenge. Maybe they can control the tome from the house, causing it to summon vampire spawn, vampires, vampiric mist, vampric vegetables, cursing the party, casting spells from it, and stuff like that. Then the party has to find out who is controlling the tome, and hunt them down. Or the servant might hire and summon monsters to hunt them down.
Maybe the hags have a cauldron of rebirth, and they ressurect and want to get the tome back.
Maybe the hags were going to sell it to somebody, but then they were killed. Now that person is hunting them down and is attacking them. Word could have spread and other people are also chasing them down.
Maybe the king was keeping close watch on the hags, and when they died he didn't want other people to have the tome so he is trying to get it for himself.
Maybe the night after the hags died, a criminal broke into their hut and was going to steal the tome, but found it was already stolen, and now must go after them.
If the hags ran the market, someone will soon find out that they are dead. When news spreads, powerful people will want to know where the hags stuff went. Word will spread, and they might want to get their hands on it.

These are all great ideas, thx I think I'll go with the king wanting the book and he sends like a bounty hunter after the players.
