I have never DM'd before and I am writing a campaign to eventually play with friends. I am basing my BBEG off of a monologue I found that puts the party at a moral cross roads and need ideas for what he/she/they could be.
Here's the monologue he (or she or they) will be giving when the party does finally get to them:
"Look upon the maps, heros - each line drawn in blood, each border marked by graves. For Thirty years, I've unified warring kingdoms, standardized law across this continent, brought order to chaos. Do you know how many children no longer starve because the trade routes my rule, or as you call it, "curse" started? How many fewer wars rage for all fear my legions more than they hate their neighbors? You see a tyrant's boots stamping on human dignity - I see the architect of humanities survival. Nature abhors a vacuum, and history despises peace, unless both are enforced by will and steel. The queen you have come here for does not wish for peace, she craves the power to "reign" again. So raise your righteous blades, champions of "freedom" but, ask yourselves, is yours a victory of the thousands of wars that bloom in my absence? Sometimes the cruelest thing you can do is let the people rule themselves."
Maybe a death knight, death knights are fallen paladins who strayed into evil, and that monolouge seems like the philosophy of a fallen knight who still retains some honor.

Any ideas or pointers are very much appreciated!
