After looking over the 5e Planescape module, I found Farrow, who has a hat (well, ring) of disguise. This would be a small thing but, in the same section, it mentions that they change statistics while donning one of the rings disguises. Regardless of lore from past editions, should I just throw away the idea that the item is just a hat of disguise? Should I make a new item to explain the difference? Is there a way to get that shape-changing ability in some other simple way? I was considering that the ring could just be a ring of alter self but that wouldn’t account for the change in statistics and it would cost concentration. Thank you for any help you can give on this topic.
I am running this adventure right now and I thought that was odd too. I just made them a Changeling; it seemed simpler.

This seems like spoilers and might be better suited for the Dungeon Masters Only forum.
Fair, thanks for the heads up.
