I have a player in my play by post that has been very rude and problematic since the beginning, and a few players have left perhaps because of this. I'm not too keen on the negativity but gave him a pass at the start because he's new and apparently had a bad dm in the past and I didn't want to ruin his experience.
Now I've got a few players that have told me they feel as if he's ruining the experience.
I'm wondering, what can I do? Should I 'yellow card' him? Kick him? I'm not very confrontational and I hate doing anything like that. I also fear that he may continue to post in the thread and harass me and my players.
Any advice?
I have tried to talk to him but the reply was condescending if anything.
I would simply tell him that you and other players have an issue with the way he has been acting and ask him if he wants to continue to play to tone it down, otherwise he is free to find another group to play with. Since this is PBP, you don't have to worry about the person being your friend any more afterwards, but still try to be as polite as possible. In the end, preventing him from posting in the group is probably the best option once you have talked to him and he has decided he is doing nothing wrong.
If you're taking the time to run a PbP game for other people, especially people you don't know, then there is absolutely no compulsion upon you to have people in your player group who you don't want.
As per advice above, you've done the right thing in talking to this person. If they have been told that they are ruining the game for you and the other players, and refuse to change their behaviour, then you are well within your rights to ask them to leave the game.

Definitely talk to him one-on-one, and explain that his behavior in-game is driving other players away because they don't feel as though this game experience is a good one. Ask him if he wants to perhaps modify his game style or find another game. Make sure you're not coding his fun as wrong wholesale, but perhaps wrong for this group. If his behavior persists, drop him from the game.

If you love a character, you give them pain, ruin their lives, make them suffer. Maybe even throw in a heroic death.

If this is a PbP on these forums, then the moderators can be contacted if another user is harassing/trolling others and we will take it seriously.
