Greatwyrms are a great idea: dragons that have ascended beyond even ancient dragons in power. But the stat blocks condense all of them into one block, remove capabilities from some of them, and generally don’t do them justice. If you modified the greatwyrms to keep the subtle differences between each dragon variety, what might you do?
some of my ideas:
rework gem dragon breath weapons to not all be amethyst breath weapons
boost chromatic greatwyrm health except green ones, which gain 2d6 claw damage. This will increase their cr to 28, intentional.
add more psionic spells to gem greatwyrms, and make them match the ancient variety’s spells
reduce white greatwyrm ac, giving them higher breath weapon damage as compensation
give all greatwyrms the little passive traits of younger dragons of the same type, like amphibious and ice walk
Add climb speeds. Not sure how useful they are, but some other dragons have them
That is not everything I thought of, but adding those will make these better creatures that keep the uniqueness of the ancient dragons while being epic greatwyrms.
Edit: ancient dragon turtles, which are not done justice by their stat blocks either, are similar enough to also be open for discussion here.
Well i agree id love to see a guide to turn an ancient dragon into a greatwyrm state wise cause im psychotic and wanted to make a void greatwyrm and a time greatwyrm but need to work out how to do that
