So, in a homebrew setting I have a Pistol +1 (reflavored Light Crossbow) this weapon was modified to add an additional dice of lighting damage.
I currently have it setup this way.
But when I use it on the character sheet it does add the +1 and it shows the lighting damage on the side (like this), but when using the dice roller it only rolls the 1d8 for base damage
not adding the extra 1d8 of lighting damage, is there a way for me to have the roller roll that additional d8?
Oh, it seems like its not possible right now then.
It's really just a limitation of the dice roller; you've setup your weapon correctly. And actually, if you use Avrae (the Discord bot) it will roll the extra damage automatically as you expect; it's only the DDB dice roller that is lacking features for things like auto-advantage, added damage and so-on.

Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Hello from the future OP, seven years later and we still cannot modify damage type or change type, or number of damage die on homebrew weapons.
But hey, dndbeyond got bought by Wizards of the Coast, imagine that! We now have a new rule book and all content from 5e was labelled Legacy, instead of something more logical like 5e or 2014.
Lets hope dndbeyond get some competition, maybe it will light fire under their butts.
They were already using “legacy” for other stuff, so they just stuck with it. And they couldn’t just call it “5e,” because they’re calling the new stuff “5e” too. Didn’t you hear? “It’s still the same edition.”
WotC would have to license any potential competition. Do you real see them doing that any time soon?
