I recently published this subclass for the ranger and wanted some more feedback. I was wondering what some people's thoughts were on this.
Some notes:
Because of how the subclass builder works and how the subclass is built the monster mask and monster mask options had to be two separate "features" because they are dependant on favored terrain and enemy choices.
It's very long because I wanted a lot of options for the subclass.
It was my intent to be "a little boosted" in comparison to other subclasses, due to the ranger being a noticeably inferior class.
While the subclass has a lot of similarities to the concept of the druid, the monster mask ability is not similar to wild shape at all. I also thought it would fit better with the ranger due to the favored terrain and enemies. It brings more relevance to those abilities. For that reason, a ranger whose favored enemy is undead playing through the Tyranny of Dragons module will still have use for that due to the subclass options.
So, I'm going to be honest and let you know I didn't read all of the mask choices, so I can't tell you if all of the masks are balanced or not, but I like the general concept. It reminds me of the warlock's eldritch invocation abilities. I also like how this subclass leaves DMs open to make other masks for their players. However, I probably wouldn't use this subclass with Ranger Revised, since it doesn't include the Favored Terrain feature (in favor of making all terrain 'favored').
I'd have to play a couple sessions with it to give you more feedback, but hopefully their are some others who can go a little more in-depth into the balancing of the abilities.
There are a lot of options, so I would've been very impressed if you had read them all lol but hopefully any that you did read wasn't too overpowered. The enemy masks were intentionally more powerful than the terrain masks.
But you are correct. It wouldn't be a perfect fit with ranger revised with the removal of options for favored terrain, however you could still have the ranger pick which terrain they loved to hunt in, or which they specialized in, or which was relevant to backstory. So it could still work, it would just need a cosmetic rewording.
Looking over some of them I see a few things that as a dm I'm not for the first major one is the level 11 feature lets say I pic roc thats lets me take a 28 in strength that's a Legendary magic item for free and then Turing huge that a level 17 feature for fighter for one minute like I think you added to much and it makes it so busted in just a couple of reads I realy thing it needs a lot of changes love the idea of taking the train and working with that but some of this is just crazy like the great ape huge and a 3d10 weapon like what thats better then what a druid can do with its wild shape at that level

I'm sorry, but where do you see where you get a 28 in strength when you don the Roc mask?
In regards to the great ape, polymorph, which is a 4th level spell, lasts for 1 hour, this lasts for 1 minute and you can only use it once per day. In addition, if you really wanted to take a beatstick role, then fighter getting additional attacks is the better option.

This subclass has been added in PDF form to the DMSguild. The link is as follows: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/263820/Monster-Masked--5E-Ranger-Subclass . I know some people prefer pdf versions of homebrew, plus the organization is neater on the pdf for critiques!

the level 11 you can change a core stat and the roc has a 28 strength then you can pick that
Oh okay, yes, that is a temporary change for 1 minute. So definitely not on the scale of a legendary item.
