So was thinking about the different ways to get your base stats. What if you replaced the standard array [8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15] with the Heroic Array [11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18],
Alternatively, you could use the standard array, but allow the player 6 "points" they can add anywhere, no stat can exceed 18 prior to modifiers.
Is your goal for everyone to have high scores? If not, then the point-buy system in the PHB should work fine. If you do want for everyone to have higher scores, I would say go with your idea to start with the standard array and give them 6 points to add to it. That way they can boost a few stats, but not every stat gets a +3 (like in the Heroic Array).

Someone posted here which brought me back to this thread. I missed it the first time, but not every stat would have a +3, the 11 is a +0, 13, +1, 15 a +2, 16 and 17 +3 and 18+4 (prior to racial bumps).

they meant a +£ to each score not each modifier (e.g, 8+3=11, 10+3=13, 12+3=15, 13+3=16, 14+3=17 and 15+3=18), they were talking about how you just increased every score by 3 points from the standard array. also and this is just personal opinion, while i do like having big scores in my character to make them more powerful i find often the lowest scores are what make a character fun to play and am a little disappointed there are no negative modifiers in this heroic array.

Ah, that makes more sense, yeah, well by all means you could keep the 8 an 8
I like using these numbers 17,15,14,13,11,8 ... I like having a lot of odd numbers so when you pick feats that have a +1 to an ability if feels like a big boost (unless you pick the human race). Also, with three relatively high numbers classes like Paladin, Monk and Ranger which are Multi-ability Dependent feel better from level 1.

Yeah, basically I like strong builds, hence the options
You could use Point Buy but instead of 27 points use 33 or 37 or however many you wish.

I'm personally gonna use a variant of this heroic array fir some beginnibg players where i have an 8 in tgere somewhere, to keep things balanced.

Glad to know that someone is going to use it, I did it just for theory crafting and have yet to use it.
