The Chickenmancer class was something of a nightmarish hellscape that easily broke the game.
So why not reinvent the fool and try to actually make a balanced chickenmancer class for once.
This will be something that I want people to pretty much discuss, since it's so infamous due to it's broken nature.
For those who don't know:
"Back in 3.5e they had a monthly update via dungeon magazine. In one of those books they tried to have a little fun with NPC classes. Little did they know they’d break the game.
In one dragon magazine they had the ‘chicken infested’ flaw available only to commoners. Whenever a commoner would draw an item there was a 50% chance of it being a chicken.
It was supposed to be flavorful and fun.
What happened was that people took 1 level in commoner, got the flaw, and a spell components pouch. For ease of use, drawing an item from a spell components pouch was considered a free action. And you had an unlimited number of those. Spell component pouches are also considered infinite, filled with minor powders and such.
So each turn people were capable of drawing an infinite number of things from a spell component pouch. Therefore drawing an infinite number of chickens.
Monster chasing you down a corridor? Wall of chickens. Dragon sleeping in a cave? Fill it with chickens. River or canyon in your way? Chicken bridge.
All for 1 level in commoner.
Some people took this a step further, creating tactics such as the infinite cleave; drawing a chicken, cleaving it, cleave nearby enemy, draw a chicken, cleave the chicken, cleave enemy. Or mages that turned conjured chickens into zombie, flaming or explosive chickens. Doing infinite d6’s of chicken based damage." -Tumblr User @secretdmmachinations
So first on the list will be a discussion for the chicken item rate.
I believe that instead of a common feature, this should be a more lenient ability for higher levels. Maybe it's a d20 role + Wisdom modifier for chickens, maybe places where more rare items have a higher chicken encounter rate.
I also believe that there should be a special "Polymorph Chicken" spell that lets you turn enemies into chickens. Probably again at a higher level.
If you can choose a type of chicken choose a Brahma. Those things are hardy as hell and average at about 1.7-3.0 feet tall. Cast grow and terrorize some commoners LOL. And if it dies let your party's necromancer and or eldritch warlock have some fun. also find ways to increase its Int a bit and give it something that lets it uses alter self for a crazy scary Super Mega Ultra Chicken. Also considering the normal size you can get a bunch of food out of them. LOL have fun with that.
Also use a potion of fire breathing on the chicken because reasons. and if all else fails tie a bunch of alchemist's fire and a barrel of black powder to it, and have it run into a crowd.

Middle Finger of Vecna actually made a Sorcerer Origin around this idea, The Cluckromancer.
