I see. I tried to recreate some of the situations that were listed by Treebeard, but maybe I'm doing something wrong because I can't seem to get it to work. I tried to replace something like druids wild shape as a test, but none of the situations were working. Does it matter if the class feature created is granted or additional? I never see core features up for replacement anyways, so I assume that's out of the question.
Let's say I'm trying to override core bard features; "Proficiencies", and "Equipment" with a homebrew class's which are granted at level one, if I name those features the same as the core bard features it should replace them where - at character creation?
Also if the homebrew class does not have spell casting, if I create a "dummy" feature with no options and name it Spellcasting, does that replace spellcasting and if I select "hide from sheet" and "hide from selection" does that remove the Feature listing?
If I did this for all of the core bard features, should I technically be able to have a homebrew class? Also if the subclass is chosen at level 3 does this still override the level 1 features? trying to wrap my head around this - also trying to see if I can get it to work.

No. Since the bard class gets its subclass at 3rd level, it couldn’t do anything until 3rd level when they choose the subclass.
No, because as soon as you check “hide on character sheet” it won’t replace the base class feature.
None, because of the reasons already stated.
None of that will work for the updated 2024 classes at all anyway.
Last I checked it did.

It must be a Granted feature, and it must have the exact same name as the feature it is replacing.
