As the small guys pop put of the pipe they grow just a tad. They are charcoal black skinned and sort of resemble pudgy goblins, but they are coated in this oily substance. One of them has a bump on his head, possibly from the pole. They are in no mood to listen to reason and they quickly spread around the room.
All of the punching attacks to Var’s legs have no effect and just sort of slip off. The area around Vars is saturated with slippery oil from these guys and so needs to make a dc11 dex check or slip and fall prone. The one grappling his arm secretes a sticky oil and Is latched on pretty tight, so Vars will need to beat 17 to not be grappled.
The one with a lump lands a blow on Bjorns thigh that smarts a little, the other twos punches glance off. The space around Bjorn is now covered with slick oil so Bjorn needs to make a dex save as well.
the last two will shimmy up a different statue for a better vantage point drenching the statues in oil
"Hey now..." Vars was going to try reasoning with them, but since he's got the torch in his hand he realizes how difficult that might be.
Upon being assaulted, Vars says, "I wasn't going to burn the place down! We just want to get out of here." He shakes his arm a little in attempt to rid himself of the sticky creature.
I'm assuming these are both dex checks right? (I'm going to try my luck with the game log)
Dex to avoid slipping: 17
Dex to avoid grapple: 8
He deftly avoids slipping as the slimy creatures attack him, but is unable to drop the torch, "Hey, you can have it.... We won't hurt you if you don't hurt us. Maybe we can help each other? Why didn't you speak up earlier this could have been avoided!"
Persuasion to at least try to get them to listen, (If applicable...I know they aren't in the mood to listen...but I thought I'd give it a try anyways lol): 7

Sparhawk, usually taking more of a direct combat approach will cast Bless on Reginald, Bjorn, and Vars and will go full dodge (If allowed How many of these guys are there?)
You bless up to three creatures of your choice within range. Whenever a target makes an attack roll or a saving throw before the spell ends, the target can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the attack roll or saving throw. (Pretty sure that would include dex saves).

The 2 South of Var (V) and the 2 North of Bjorn (B) will be in Cone effect. The one South of me (R) will get the Firebolt.
