We pack up and start heading toward the key. Sparhawk looks at the map. "Alright Vars, if we are all ready, lets take your best route to the key area.?"
The sky is heavily clouded and the air is cool, though the frost has evaporated. You head out onto the eastern split in the road towards Mirabar. Very soon you reach a bridge that goes over the river Mirar. The water is deep and fast moving at this juncture as a northern river from high in the mountains meets the Mirar. You travel approximately a half an hour more along the road to approximately to portion of the map indicating the key. Like most of the areas near the river, the brush is overgrown with a myriad of small trees, vines and such. After several minutes of observation and comparing to the map, you find what looks like the remnants of a trail through the over grown brush. Almost like brick or cobble stone.

Vars stays at the head of the group for the duration of this journey. When they near the place where they key is supposed to be, he stops to examine the area.
"Strange..." Vars says, eyeing the trail. "I was expecting this to be more...hidden. Hmm, well, I suppose we can try following it, but I'd be wary of traps. There is a possibility that this might not even lead to where we are trying to go...but it's worth a shot. If we start veering of course, we can abandon the trail."
He looks down the trail a ways, searching for any sign of recent travel or hidden traps.
"I agree. The only thing this trail doesn't have is an arrow and sign that says, this way to an ambush." Sparhawk draws his sword and shield. "Stay alert and spread out a bit."
If there is some room to go off the trail, Sparhawk will encourage the group to spread out even more.
"Who's got the time to sit out here waiting for an ambush? The map seller had no way of knowing when we'd end up here." Bjorn sounds unsure of his own argument.
[Does it look like we're going to have trouble getting the cart through here?]
“Perhaps, but feels more like a scheme where you set some folks in town to fish for adventurer types. “Hey, you wanna buy a map to a treasure?” Sparhawk winks at Frangipani. “ “then they come out here and the rest of the gang is waiting. You get a finders fee”. He looks at Bjorn. “I’m surprised, easily something you could come up with my friend.” Let’s hope it’s nothing”
“Maybe one of us could scout ahead a little? We have illusions, shape changing, heck, I think some of us can talk to animals”

Investigation (for examining the trail): 21
The trail is heavily overgrown and doesn't appear anything but animals have traveled down it for some time. Going a little ways down the cobble bricks end. Either covered over or wasted away by time. You can hear the water of the river up ahead, maybe 200 feet further. A little ways into the brush you just barely notice what looks like a weather aged leg bone of some type sticking out of the dirt under a bush

You could get the cart most of the way in and there is a good amount of foliage to hide it
Vars doesn’t say anything as he squints down the trail. As far as he could tell, there were no traps in the area…still, he wouldn’t be so quick to assume there weren’t any.
After a moment he says, “Doesn’t look like anyone’s been here in a while…but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any traps around, so keep an eye out.” He gestures towards the bone sticking out of the ground, “Can’t tell what kind of bone that is from this distance, but it’s likely a sign to be careful. Even if it’s from some sort of animal, that could mean we’re entering some hunting grounds for a large predator. It looks pretty old though, so let’s hope it’s an animal kill rather then a trap…though it it was a trap, that unfortunate person likely sprung it for us.” Warily, he approaches where the bone is keeping an eye out for potential traps and staying alert in case of wild animals.

”We also seem to be nearing the River, that’s a good sign. We should be getting close.”
If he doesn’t find anything, he will continue down the trail, walking just off to the side of it if possible.
Actually, before he heads down the trail, he’ll pull the bone out of the ground to see what kind of bone it is. If he can’t pull it out he’ll leave it alone.

Vars pulls the bone out of the dirt and finds it is a human sized femur. There are several indentations in the bone at various points, either from a weapon or teeth of something big.
You move carefully in the dense foilage, occasionally getting poked by thorns from the vines. You make safely down to the shoreline on the river. There are tons of tracks and prints along the soft dirt near the water. The shoreline has many boulders of varying sizes and is edged mostly by small cliffs and overhangs.
one section draws your attention more than the others. There seems to be a lot of muddled tracks heading to a few large boulders situated about midway up a 15’ embankment.

You find nothing further of interest on the corpse of Bernard.

Bjorn nods at Eberk's suggestion. "That could very well be it."

"Alright Vars, show us what you got!"

“Anyone wanna take a look at those rocks?”
