He scans the room looking for anywhere that could be hiding something, staying close to the walls and looking under the workbenches probing for hidden compartments:

Sorsha nods and smiles as Sparhawk finds the secret compartment in the chest. She raises her eyebrows as Frangipani mentions her mother having contact with demons, but decides to not pursue the matter, after all Sorsha too knows the Abyssal language. "The magical contract we signed was with Mr Fist. It has nothing to do with this mission necessarily I think." She says to Sparhawk.
Sorsha wrinkles her nose at the strong scent of soap or perfume, not particularly used to that. She starts by investigating the large wooden vats. Investigation: 4 Then the workbenches. Investigation: 11 "We don't know that we're looking for a spellbook right? It could be any type of book, and if it's an artefact perhaps it is more likely not a spellbook." She says calmly, carefully examining the room.

"Right, it could be another kind of book. Maybe a cookbook. What's conjuration magic again? Is that the school for deadly traps?"
Bjorn picks up one of the jars and swirls the liquid around. [Whatever knowledge skill would be called for here, he doesn't have it. If a check is still possible to identify these preserves:] 20

The large wooden vats are filled with water. The water in the first one is clear'ish and the vat with the contraption over it is a bit murky with a strong smell of the soap. You think there might be some linen or other cloth in the water. You can surmise the contraptions purpose is to agitate the water and cloth.
The near by work benches are cleared on top, but on a shelf below there are some kind of tea kettle like device with a heavy flat bottom. Some pottery filled with ingredients that would be the source of soap and perfume.

In order to figure out the liquid, you would need to open the jar. If you had to guess you would think some sort of alchohol type fluid
[I was thinking there was something floating in the jars. If not, sure, he'll pop one open and see if it smells like anything.]
Thinking to perhaps find bloodstains from the goblin's murder, Bjorn checks any clothes he can see, then dredges the vat for whatever clothes might be soaking there.

Some of the jars contain specimens. Some are just fluid. The guild smells very pungent and is somewhat thicker than water. Some smell of linseed oil.
When Bjorn goes to dredge the vat to see what kinds of clothing are there, a bloated goblin body floats up to the surface. She was dressed in workers dress and apron. You cant tell the cause of death and you are thankful for the perfumed soap smell covering up the rot
The rest of the workbenches near the easels contain stacks of drawings, sketches and notes. One sheet of Paper has large words written on it in common.
“This is turning into a lot more than just a missing person case,” Vars mutters, eyeing the corps. “What do you make of this?” He gestures to the large words, “Sounds like our wizard might have gone a bit looney if you ask me.”
Bjorn recoils from the corpse and backs out of the room. "Abernath the Infernal, indeed. Reading that demonic book might have been the beginning of his madness."
[Is it strange in this setting to see goblins working honest jobs? I know in some versions of the Realms it would be.]
"Okay, many theories coming out now. Killing someone with a garrote sounds more like a trained assassin than an old wizard to me but I'm sure we'll have more clues waiting for us in here. Let's continue the search now."Sorsha says and moves up the stairs. (As per post #729)
As he follows Sorsha, “I have heard of this saying in my military and survival training” Sparhawk muses. “I’ve heard it, two is one and one is none. It means bring more than one way to accomplish something. If all you bring for a fire is flint and you lose it, you can’t make a fire, thus… one is none.”
”I wonder if this is similar, maybe for spells or ingredients, or laundry or spells?”

( no. Not strange, but not super common either. Luskan has all sorts of people and Ports are known for the diversity. Besides, they have changed the Goblinoid history so it will be more common than before. Most bad goblins are bad because the abusive nature of their society and the God that lords over them. But some escape their torment and end up in more civilized living conditions)
“Agreed” Sparhawk feels uneasy. “The stairs?”
Sparhawk keeps his eyes out for a spell book/ tomb that seems special as he slowly moves through.

(So, are we looking at a fantasy washing machine then? :-)
Unless the others wants to further investigate the room Sorsha moves on up the stairs, motioning for the others to follow.

(OOC: Did Vars or Sorsha find anything in the workbenches?)
If there is nothing of note in the workbenches, Vars will follow Sorsha up the stairs.

“This is the second body we have found. Presumably murdered like our little friend upstairs.” Sparhawk is not pleased.

You leave the laundry room/ art studio and head up the stairway to the 2nd floor.
