Vines spring up from the otherwise lifeless earth and ensnares Otbium. He watches the vines with curiosity as they snake around his limbs and bind him. He tests the vines with a forceful tug and looks to Joy when they do not yield to his strength. "I have been bound for 10,000 years. I will never be bound again."

He blinks out of existence and appears 30ft north by northeast. "But thank you for the idea."

He punches the earth where he stands and cracks it open, splintering out fractures like a web. From those cracks a gust of air and bones fly out at you and begin to build around each of you. The touch of the bones decays the flesh on your bodies, leaving blackened marks where they touch.

DM: Reaction to teleport away from the restraints, Special BBEG action to cage each person within 60ft. Dexterity Saving Throw from Jack, Joy, Ylis, Riven, Vazo'yn, Randa, Giles, Lily, Shadowwhisk, Air Elemental, DC 22, or suffer 27 Necrotic Damage and have the Restrained Condition for 1 minute. Successful Saves suffer 13 Necrotic Damage and are not Restrained.

DM: Randa, it is your turn.

Joy dex save: 11, but due to Oil of Slipperiness she isn't restrained.

The cage of bones starts to build up around Joy, causing her to recoil from the pain of her suddenly decaying flesh. As the cage is nearly completed in its construction, Joy (and anyone else with the Oil) slips out of the last few bars of bones and it crumples to dust.

DM: Very cool forethought on that Oil of Slipperiness. The damage will apply as normal still.

Dex Save [Heroic Inspiration] (18,9)+12 =30

Vazon'yn Dex save: 27. 13 necrotic damage taken.

He takes 0 damage because of Evasion.

Managing to avoid being trapped, Joy quickly spots where Otbium has teleported. Why move there...?

'Ah, careful of the ground. He might try to trick us into walking the path.'

Vazo'yn can see that the magic being used is primarily Necromantic. However, he notes a few oddities. The spells seem to be a mixture of schools. For example, the teleportation that Otbium used is both Conjuration and Necromancy. The bubble around him is Abjuration and Necromancy. Strictly speaking, this defies all that Vazo'yn knows about magic. Further, since Otbium has cracked the floor of the mountain top, Vazo'yn can see magical energy venting from the new fissures. This is Necromancy and what can only be described as otherworldly, celestial energy. Perhaps the most shocking revelation of all, however, is that whenever Otbium uses an ability, the bubble surrounding the nearest pillar dims before brightening again with its protective energy.

Eeek! I just read your staff. Since they are actual physical objects, then Otbium would not see you, but I just read my post again to see why you were asking... the bone cage doesn't actually require sight because it is just a 60ft radius effect. However, Otbium cannot specifically target you right now. Apologies for the misleading word choice before. My bad. The butterflies are an emanation from your person though, so they follow you.

The pattern is not marred by the cracks! Great question. The pattern seems entirely unaffected by the cracks in the earth. In fact, this gives Otbium an opportunity to hear the sound of his own voice again. Snatching that opportunity right up.

IC: Otbium smiles. "I sense your confusion" He says with great mirth as he thrusts himself, uninvited into your minds. "Why would I attack my own pattern? The very thing I need to gain my freedom? Your dull minds and jelly eyes can't even see the pattern. It is so beyond the grasp of your limited, three-dimensional comprehension, that a simple winding path is the only way your brains can interpret it without going mad. It is no more a path on the floor than a circle is a sphere."
