This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jacaranda Initiative- 20
Normal Arrow at Big Ugly- Attack: 16 Damage: 6
Banishing Arrow Shot at the Big Ugly- Attack: 25 Damage: 11
A creature hit by your arrow must also succeed on a CHA saving throw (DC 10) or be banished. While banished, the target’s speed is 0, and it is incapacitated. At the end of its next turn, the target reappears in the space it vacated or in the nearest unoccupied space if that space is occupied. [18th] +9 force damage on hit
DM: the heroes have once again lost the Initiative round (quite badly this time, I might add). However, Randa’s rolls were great, so we will keep those for when it is the Fellowship’s turn and she can just identify new targets if conditions change enough to warrant it.
Randa bursts through the door, an arrow forming in her hand from steam as she draws back on her gilded porcelain bow. In a flash, the enemies get to work. The four demons leap from their tables, not being bound to it like the mortals are on theirs.
A zombie looking creature, with long, rotting limbs and sunken abdomen is across the room and up the stairs in long strides. It reaches the top, roughly 30ft from Randa and glares at her with yellow, puss-filled eyes.
In her mind, Randa can hear the screams of all captives of the Abyss unleashed upon her. Their wails of agony and eternal torture are matched only by an intense feeling of cold and loneliness. She hears her own voice in her head, louder than any worry or self-criticism has ever been in her life. “Why fight? They’ll all just leave anyway. There isn’t any point. I’ll be all alone and so cold. Alone. Alone. Alone…”
DM: Wisdom Saving Throw, if you please Randa. DC 14 as you try to shake off what feels like your own, impossibly intense fears of abandonment and loss. On failure, you are Incapacitated until the end of the next monster turn.
Another fiend, a long, dark purple, sinewy creature with stiff, needle-like fur and a head like an elephant without ears leaps from its table to the landing before Randa. It lifts its trunk and opens its mouth and thousands of inch-long needles fire out right down the line at the party.
DM: Dexterity Saving Throw for everyone in this narrow corridor. On success, 3 points of Piercing Damage and 6 points of Piercing Damage upon failure. DC 16.
Next, what appears to be a gnoll with bubbling, steaming skin and a wild look in its eye lumbers toward the party. Somewhat less agile, it doesn’t quite make it to the stairs.
DM: Anyone with Arcana Proficiency can roll a free knowledge check on this, DC 12.
The last fiend on the tables is an eight-limbed, spider/humanoid creature that scrambles up the wall behind it and skitters along the ceiling toward the party.
The three horned fiend seems unbothered by the interruption and extends its hand out to Desu, who eagerly snatches up the vial given to her. Notably, however, she does not immediately drink it. Instead, she stows it in a pouch on her belt and throws a dagger at Randa (with Disadvantage due to distance).
DM: Nat 1, ha!
Her aim is well off and she instead hurls the dagger into the torso of the needle-fiend, who stops its assault to glare at her accusingly.
(OOC: Quick question. If Frekor wants to enter the room by moving through a party member's space, would that be difficult terrain or not? Because now most of the group is in the corridor. I will post Frekor's turn after knowing this so that Frekor can fight in the best way possible.)
(OOC: Morgan's dex save: 11 Morgan concentration save: 17 I believe, in 5.5e rules, allies are no more considered difficult terrain, If that is the case...)
"As they say: no risk, no fire."
Morgan uses all his movement to position himself just to the left of Randa (west). "I'm sure someone says that... or they should."
Morgan closes his mouth, concentrates, and taps into his innate sorcery, drawing on the deepest energy within him... and casts his very first Fireball. (If my calculations are correct... the red star in the picture below is the sweet spot to hit fiends 1-4. DC:17 (dex), Damage: 34 fire, no wild magic surge)
OOC: Ylis has Primal Order Magician for a bonus to Arcana. If that doesn't count then the party has nobody with Arcana.
(OOC: Someone would have to dip into Bard, Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock or Wizard for that. Obviously, it couldn't be the players that are already those classes, like Ylis and Morgan. But even then, Ylis is the one with the highest intelligence, only the half casters (Frekor, Nivi and Sky) would benefit the most. Nivi and Frekor would have to go for Druid since their Wisdom is higher, and Sky could go for any Charisma spellcaster. But then again, they would still have a low proficiency since their INT is low.)
(OOC: I would argue that Sky takes 3 damage instead of 6 due to his Heavy Armor Mastery.)
Damage Reduction. When you’re hit by an attack while you’re wearing Heavy armor, any Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing damage dealt to you by that attack is reduced by an amount equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
