The river bubbles and burbles as it passes by a shallow stretch of riverstone a natural submerged bridge of sorts that local halflings often use on their way to Shatter-stone the only community in a hundred miles nestled in the midst of the rocky foothills known as as the Green-teeth wilderness.
There is a stench, an odd river foam, & an oily film on the water today, it is perhaps an occurrence worth looking into?

A figure emerges from the wilderness. Long dark hair spills down the feline creature's shoulders. She is dressed in finery that looks completely out of place in the wilderness, but here she is.
She yawns and finds a large rock by the stream. She stretches out on the rock and sighs, laying down a massive axe next to her. She rolls on the rock, belly-up with a deep purr echoing out of her throat. After spending a few moments sunning herself, the feline suddenly realizes that something is wrong with what should be a lovely, clear stream. And that just will not do.
"The water looks very icky today,"she says, her voice confused as she picks up her axe again. "Perhaps Katarina needs to see what happens to turn the clear-water into mud-water..."

Katarina looks at the dead fishes with a combination of disgust and horror!
"Oh no! Poor fishies!" Katarina exclaims.
She gently prods one of the dead animals with the tip of her axe. She doesn't know what happened... but perfectly good fish are being without being eaten by a Tabaxi! It's a travesty!
"Katarina will make sure this bad-thing stops here," she announces to no-one in particular, and begins slowly following the stream towards its source.
Following a fisherman’s path north along the Fizz River Katrina sees a small rocky ledge normally an easy obstacle, today however the rocks appear quite hazardous coated by a wet slimy spray.

From atop the ledge Katrina has a great view of Shatter-stone Hamlet seems there are several folks discovering the condition of their normally beautiful river. Seems even the sheep and goats won’t willingly cross over.

Katarina waits a moment... not sure what to do... then, she decides to talk to the villagers instead of the creepy tree-person thing staring at her. Maybe they'll know what's going on. She carefully descends down the rocks (climb speed 30 ft) and heads towards the village.
"Katarina thinks maybe nice village people can tell her what happened to fishies," she says as she slides down the rocks.
The villagers have an artisan spring located beside the Stonewheel Inn, but it was not uncommon to slake your thirst from the river until now. It seems a few head of livestock and the elder’s grandson have become ill it is assumed they drank from the Fizz.
Katrina can see the normally shy residents looking at her with such hope in their eyes, yet none approach or speak up. What would Katrina like to do?

Katarina approaches the friendliest-looking villager.
"Excuse Katarina," she says with a friendly smile. "She wondered... what has happened to all the fishies? Did something very bad happen to the pretty river?"
Her tail flicks back and forth, a bit nervous in spite of herself at what she might hear.

“Some say it’s a prophesy, I say it’s something fell in the river, but maybe it’s a couple dwarven miners trying to drive us away.”
”Can you clean the water pretty lady? I have a copper piece for you. I love the fish too.”
”If you need help I could come with. I’m good with a sling.”
”It is the prophesy, the dragon of old whose bones litter these foothills his dying breath he vowed all would die of poison if ever his treasure was plundered!”

"Katarina will do what she can," Katarina says. "But... Katarina will need help to find what happened to the fishies. Katarina is strong... but Katarina knows she is not very clever. And Katarina cannot hit flying things. If there are some who would come with Katarina, she will gladly find and stop whatever poisons the fishies."
Her big eyes look at the one with the sling who offered to come with her gratefully, and she gives him a shy smile. She hopes that maybe a healer will come to join the archer.
