It doesn't take long to return to the river, although by the time you get there the sun has fully set. As the darkness descends several people, including yourselves, begin to get a bit restless. Shapes seem to form out of the shadows in the corner of your eyes, but as soon as you look at them they're just normal shadows.
Because of the darkness, it takes some time to actually locate the boats, but eventually you find some boats hidden away in some bushes. They're serviceable enough and it doesn't take too long for you to get them across the river. Now a few hours into darkness, several people are stumbling as you walk, complaining that they're tired and hungry and in need of rest. (you know it's at least half a day to Deford and it's not far off midnight now)
You are also all getting tired and hungry, having walked far and done much since you left Deford.
Quilqwen:
As you take your last look at the darkness, you think you see something pull itself out of it, but you blink and it's gone.
Estellen calls the six of them together as the night begins to set in, "This isn't ideal, but it looks like we will have to make camp here. Quilqwen, can you produce food for this many people? Does anyone else have this skill? We will have to take watches, I will rest now and then I will be able to take the latter two, we should have two people to a watch though, you may all divide the rest between yourselves."
He then casts alarm as ritual, creating a 10 ft area around himself that will give him a mental alarm if anyone other than the party steps inside, and begins to meditate, entering a trance.
Violet shrugs, "I'll stay up to keep an eye out, you guys look like shit anyhow." with that, she also goes around to make sure the people are accommodated and whatnot. She'll wander around a bit, pulling her hood & mask down to breath in the cool night air. She always preferred the night to the day, just another quirk that allowed her to spend more time by herself. As she walks around, eventually, she gets to the back end of the mob and stares back at where they came from. A sudden desire to do something really stupid wells up inside her, and she looks back into her bag, where she smiles and walks a little away from everyone, to open up her bag and play with her new toys.
Once she's done with that, she'll return to the mass of people and patrol for a bit before it eventually comes time for her to get some sleep.
"No I am afraid getting these folks free took a lot out of me. In the morning I will do what I can. I will join you for the first watch Violet. I have much to think over right now. and once I fall asleep I do not think I will wake easily."
For the first hour of watch Quilqwen wild shapes into a giant weasel, using its superior night vision as well as keen hearing and smelling to look out for danger. When he reverts back he looks around for Violet but she is off by herself engrossed in something. So he just keeps watch.
Perception : 12 (Advantage due to Giant Weasel's Keen Hearing and Smelling trait. Also has dark vision to 60 ft)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"No they gonna have to endure for tonight, I will take the second watch." Jatrin get some wood to lit a firecamp after that he goes to sleep close to the fire.
Perception: 4 (23 lowest of 2 incase disadvantage he doesn't have dark vision)
A few fires are set and most of the survivors collapse around them. A few stay up, assisting with the watches, but very few.
Through the night several of the survivors scream themselves awake from nightmares, causing those on watch to jump. However nothing else of note happens during the night.
Quilqwen:
As you go by Violet you see her eyes, ears, nose, mouth, fingernails bleeding as she blinks awake from something, groaning as she does so. There is a pile of what looks like ash in her lap.
Tailine:
As you look out into the night, you see a shadow move within the other shadows, then it's gone and the rest of the watch is quiet.
Groaning she mumbles something under her breath and looks up to see Quil yelling at her, "I'm fine, yeesh, keep your voice down." She stands up, wobbly, but in one piece, dusting herself off and wiping away the blood, "No need to get your feathers all ruffled over a little blood."
Quilqwen lowers his voice and his head jerks quickly from side to side as he checks you over. ”It looks like a lot of blood. And it’s coming out all over. Is this normal for humans? Hmm, I do not think I saw any of the other humans bleeding like this.”
Violet rolls her eyes, "In that case you probably don't hang around a lot of women" She's joking but upon realizing that Quilqwen probably wouldn't get it, just facepalms and corrects herself, "Look, don't worry about it, just need some sleep." She sighs and casts a glance at the ashes that are now scattered over the ground.
Massaging her neck she throws a light punch into Quilqwen's shoulder, "I'm gonna turn in after seeing everyone's alright." She then starts walking through the crowd, making sure everyone's okay
Estellen raises his voice, speaking out over the crowd, "We are going to continue making our way back to Deford. If you feel that you cannot bear the burden of walking half a day, come to us and we will take care of you."
As he sees Violet, he raises an eyebrow, "And what have you done to yourself?"
He will begin walking, and will activate the pendant.
Walking over to Estellen, looking at his hand making the same gesture (inadvertently flipping the wizard off some more), ”Does this mean ’I’m fine’? That is what she told me. She said the bleeding was normal for human women. This was never mentioned in any of our records. Is this a new development for their people?”
Jatrin raise an eyebrow and tells Quilqwen while walking by "no bleeding isn't normal." He then shouts to violet "wth you teaching this bird." He'll get some men in moving the boats to the water to get it ready to transport people.
As everyone gets up for the day Quilqwen pulls the group together (or talks to them individually if need be). "We should talk to as many of the captives as we can before we get back to Deford. We should find out what happened to them. If they overheard or saw anything that could shed some light on what happened yesterday. There also seemed to be many folks waking from bad dream. I am sure that is just a normal reaction to what they have been through we should try to figure out if they have been affected in some other way." Whether the others agree or not Quilqwen will spend the rest of the day questioning the people we rescued about their capture, imprisonment, and any dreams they had last night. Before the group sets off he will also call for anything that might be considered edible, even if rotten, be brought together and have as much placed with in 5 feet of a spot he sets up. He will then spend ten minutes calling on the spirits of nature to Purify Food and Drink. After that he spends a few seconds holding his staff out in front of himself and 3 bunches of Goodberry grow from his staff. He takes and gives one each to the 30 folks who look to be the worst off. Instructing the food he purified be passed among the rest. As he questions folks he stops every ten minutes or so and spends ten minutes casting either Detect Poison and Disease or Detect Magic before continuing to move among the people. Anyone he finds with poison or disease he takes to Doc. If he finds anything magic he informs Violet and Estellen.

(And here I was trying to avoid making him make that joke. 😅)
